I managed to download the I Am Steinvord track before it was deleted but when I pressed play the music mutated into Stuxnet code, destroyed a nearby nuclear power station then disappeared as though it had never existed.

How many people will see your work, and will you be making money off it? Best to just take right route and contact them to ask permission.

It's copyrighted as soon as he makes it.

Doesn't have to be released or on a label or anything. As soon as you create an original work you own the rights to it.

An artists work is © to them unless it says otherwise.

When he uploaded it to soundcloud he gave them permission to stream it etc. And you permission to download it and listen to it.

But all other rights are reserved.

SC gives you the option of marking tracks as creativecommons etc, but he hasn't done that.

So you dont have the right to do anything with it except listen to it. You'll have to ask him for any more rights than that.
