Also, "Cold Fish". No, wait, any film by Sono Sion.

Hey does anyone have any other Sono Sion recos?

I watched Suicide Club and hated it, if his other stuff is good I'd be surprised but willing to give it a try.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

only one i'd recommend giving a try is 'love exposure' - other than that, i think sono is a pile of cliches more often than not. only think interest in him perpetuates because it saves the effort of spotting something new all the time, because even the best prolific directors are predictably patchy.

Thanks guys. The premise for Love Exposure sounds interesting enough! Just need to see when I can set aside four hours for it

Speaking of something new i'm about to watch The Boy (2015). I'll report back if its any good.

The Witch (2015)

Sounds/looks promising from some reviews. One guy said "For fans of a Field in England"...we'll see...

Three Extremes is nice

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rIz7WEKGTs

Imprint from takashi miike

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqomKbJ_zWc

The tenant from Polanski(very tense psychological thriller)

From Sion Sono Guilty of romance is his most disturbing in my opinion, intense as fuck, sexual perversion+dark baroque music (i saw love exposure in theater in a festival, was awesome)

From Sion Sono also Strange Circus, very good

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvqWQGW5V1Q

From Sono I though suicide club was shit,so was Hazard but Love Exposure,Strange Circus and Guilty of Romance are some of the most intense movie ive ever seen.

Suicide Club is not so good indeed.Strange Circus,Love Exposure and Guilty of Romance are so much better its like if it was directed by someone else they are completly different! In another league.

I might watch Love and Peace tomorrow,it looks pretty fun.Cold fish also.

tangent, Idi Y Smotri(?)/Come and See is war film that blends deep psychological trauma/horror of the most fkd kind available

its a bit of a Soviet propaganda piece, but its also 99.99% accurate too though & thats why its so compelling, i've never seen anything else quite like it

dont know how to do spoilers but a bit of an F8 head required when watching

very good indeed, thanks! after watching it i thought i wasn't going to make it trough the entire 4 hours...

Just watched The Last Slumber Party. It is so terrible that it warrants watching. Like 2.8 on IMDb terrible. Excellent soundtrack too.

(Hope the mods don't mind me posting the full movie in this case. I really don't think the director is going to care.)

I recently heard about a german film called The Angels Melancholia that supposedly reaches Salo and Cannibal Holocaust levels of depravity (rape, coprophilia, animal torture). From the trailer it seems like a bit to arty for my taste.

Anywho. Bumping this thread. Hoping to find something to ruin my mind to tonight.

Haven't got round to watching The Witch but a fella from work was saying it was excellent

Rain Over Mountain is out now; 100% of Bandcamp sales are donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

this wasn't a horror film. i thought it was more like a really well made history channel original film trying to explain the witch hunt craze

hmm. maybe not horror, but definitely terrifying, IMO. they did a great job of building the tension, with some really beautiful/unsettling scenes. first movie in a while that made me want to know more about what the fuck was going on. there were definitely a lot of easter egg-like references to classic "witch" figures throughout history/folklore/mythology. but yeah, definitely a slow burner, though I am not sure how much it will "ruin the mind". might make you come home and google some shit, tho.

Edited by thanks robert moses

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

*waits for someone to start the "horror films to make you come home and google some shit" thread*

last horror film I enjoyed was Angel Heart. haven't really seen anything since that has had teeth, although I really want to see the original Dark Water. speaking of Dark Water though, the real-life case of Elisa Lam comes to mind, which has drawn parallels to the film. the elevator cam footage of her right before she disappeared and was later found dead is pretty unsettling I find.

I just saw Tusk and it was fucking worthless.

I hated Smith's previous film before that, Red State, but I liked Tusk for the most part just from how absurd it was. The movie felt like it was a parody of M Night. Shyamalan's flicks. Watching Johnny Depp's eyes randomly move around like a pair of googily eyes, the brown recluse spider stories, and the walrus suits were the best parts. There is also an obscene amount of Canadian history littered in the movie too.

There is a decent amount of horror in the show, but since it's inflicted upon Justin Long there will probably be more cheering than recoiling in horror.
