Visually it was easily the best looking film I've ever seen in the cinema. Absolutely fantastic. Story was kinda meh but they took the original material seriously and put the work in. Batou was perfect and Scarlett did a great job. I was ecstatic walking out.

I didn't see Inception in the cinema but it almost made me fall asleep halfway through, too circlejerky for its own good. I've seen a lot of Marvel films mostly. It's very difficult to put into words, I am a sucker for cyberpunk and this one just blew me away. They got it just right. It was like seeing the cities of Blade Runner more fleshed out.

You should be ashamed!

Yeah it's too bad it wasn't a little more coherent. Or took some risks.

Like casting Japanese actors as leads.

Mamoru Oshii on casting ScarJo (basically he doesn't care).

Also interesting to see Jin-roh is being remade by a Korean director.

With the exception of the last setpiece in the lawless area, this looked surprisingly good. Was pretty satisfied with the visual side, but the story was incoherent. No investment in what was going on. I guess it was basically the Bourne identity with cyborgs. I can't remember enough of the original to know how close this was story wise, but i know the tone was wrong. Not the worst thing out, but could have been a lot better with a rewritten script and some tighter editing.

It could be good. Remember Oldboy? That started out as an anime but achieved cult status through the Korean remake.

only takeshi kitano and nobody else!

Are you saying he should direct Akira?!  His version of Akira would have Tetsuo make a bad deal with the yakuza, so then there would be a Yakuza gun fight in China town, then Tetsuo's family would be revenge-murdered by a yakuza boss, so then Tetsuo would have to revenge-kill the yakuza boss, then Tetsuo would transform into a pile of yakuza and then yakuza would yakuza yakuza.

Jin-Roh basically ruined the whole anime shtick for me, as it was so well made and good looking nothing else ever came close. It makes Akira look like a children's saturday morning cartoon. I don't see a huge point of making a remake, but it's obviously in vogue these days...
