kwang bass is definitely the top track for me, probably because its one of the only ones not eclipsed by those really bright poppy chord progressions. Love squarepusher's dark stuff still, but I think he's lost me for good when doing his take on happy music.

really? squarepusher theme, bleep street, coopers world, my sound, journey to reedham, iambic n poetry, etc., all filled with overtly joyous melody, no? also some of his best tracks imho. not that I think these tracks rank up there with any of those, but he's set a pretty high bar so it's not really a complaint. stor eiglass is a bit much maybe, though it's mellowing on me, but even the cheese rave in the middle of kontenjaz I love now.

i like all of the stuff a lot you mentioned, i think i just don't like how the happy melodies on the newer stuff seem to eclipse a lot of production tricks he's been doing, maybe that's the point or a sign he's 'matured'. I guess i just really miss when his songs seemed equally about the crazy drum worksouts combined with melody. This feels more like everything is following behind these over the top melodies like train cars, they don't take a prominent slot in the song until the end song basically (and that's the one to me that his the Go Plastic mark the best, which is A+ squarepusher zone). There are a few moments in this new LP where he goes into some weird jazz territories in between the main melodic sections, that sound sort of like his bass improvisations but very synthed out. I like all that shit a lot, but when it happens its very fleeting and immediately back to like booming bright chords that just take over everything.

I think Tom is capable of taking a listener to some very dark and fucked up brain melting places, and i guess i just want more of that stuff from him, his 'happy' place at least right now is not for me.

Not sure why everybody is talking about Baltang Ort, Baltang Arg is clearly the standout track on the album.

this whole album is so fucking good god damnit.

Okay, you guys have convinced me it's worth it. Time to go shopping.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

This album is outrageous! :catsalute:

Stor Eiglass – Snare rushes have gone wearable tech. Insertable cochlea ticklers with third-eye lightning trails.

Baltang Ort – So this is the smooth commercial end that's supposed to ease people in, Trojan Horse style right? On what planet!!? :catrage:

Rayc Fire 2 – Absurdly orchestrated stab runs to leave you breathless. I suspect this album may have originally been called 'Pathogen Funnies'. You know how one of those weird bits of WATMM culture is to examine the waveforms of tracks under a magnifying glass? That would actually be a good idea. :cerious:

Kotenjaz – Jazz in the title. Not jazz as in saxophones, but as in how many variations can you squeeze? How out can you get, while still appearing to stay in? For all this micro-showmanship, Tom only gives his fans 0.1 second silences to make some appreciative noise. Unfortunately by the time the signal goes from their brain to their mouth to do something, they've also missed several more unexpectedly syncopated opportunities to cheer in the meanwhile. :catnope:

Exjag Nives – Fucking crack rim-shot like played with a pool que. :excl::catsuicide:

Baltang Arg – Sword-and-sourcery-no-you-can't-follow-me-through-the-maze-riffs. :gamer:

Kwang Bass – Furnace blasts reminiscent of Box Energy AFX Remix. Last bit gets so kinetic, there's no safety from the trill ricochets rebounding off the walls. Damaged. :shuriken:

D Frozent Aac – A Devil-fish modded dalek exterminates the dancefloor. :diablo:

lol. yes.

with the exception of the glossy Story Glass opener track, most of the album seems pretty consistent in tone?

Rayc Fire 2 is the 180DB of Damogen Furies....

Had the day off and a free house and was ready to blast this motherfucker loud, with patio doors wide open. Next door was also fucking home and had a middle-aged bloody garden party get-together, sipping tea and snaffling cupcakes. Yeah. Great.

I kept quiet. Probably best. Cunts.

I actually quite like this album after all!

Everything but Rayc Fire 2, I think that track is terrible.

its like ufabalum cranked up another notch or two on the 'unrelenting intensity' dial. like the 2nd half of ufa type stuff expanded upon (except the first track obviously). some of the more intense parts really remind me of go plastic's noisy bits. i feel like the melodic/chord stuff is taking a major back seat to the programming/dsp stuff.

Still think Damogen is better than Ufabalum overall tho. All of the DF trax were better than Unreal Square, and that's good enough for me.

I can't tell y'all how much I hate Unreal Square. It seriously sounds like kindergarten pirate ship diarrhea, and that's putting it nicely.
