got mine yesterday, but had listened it monday. i love this album. very energetic.

I've had this album playing in my car for a couple of days, but....the NYC streaming last night blew me away.... i mean the first half was juts the album played back but it sounded better for some reason......

Its like Tom took the Ufabuklum sound and decided to squarepusher-ize it!

(I think the second half of Unreal Square is worth the wait through the cheesy first half and it seems to me like Tom ran with the melody-breakdown schtick on this new effort.. nice)

Just got my hands on this release. Skimmed a couple of songs so far, but 'D Fronzent Aac' has been on repeat all morning. It's really nice blend between 90's Tom and 2010's Tom. It has more 'warmth' to me than the Shobaleader One and Ufuabulum stuff for some reason. The sound in both those records was so clean it actually became uncomfortable to listen to after only a few tracks.

Unreal Square is great. Wouldn't even call the melodies cheesy, they're like fun prince of persia shit, similar deal to Angstrom Feck and Exjag Nives.

Haha! My 7 year old son loves that track and calls it the pirate song, so your description is fairly apt.

I'm listening it again now, and the bass drum pumping drives me crazy. I like Ufabulum, but the mastering irritates me. It's so lifeless.

for anyone curious, the japanese bonus 'track' is a waste of money. suppose it could work as an interesting intro track if you were to play the album in the vinyl order, though.

I think I like Music for robots more than this. It's still good though but I feel like they wear out pretty fast.

I was going to say (or already said it before) that Damogen Furies is the first album since Just A Souvenir / Numbers Lucent I really dig again, but yeah, I thought that EP was great too. Now I have to relisten the albums inbetween again :)

Fantano didn't like it too much, Squarepusher career is done for after this review.

zero explanation for that guy's rise to internet fame other than total random chance aligning of circumstance, i dont mean that in an insulting way though its just true. other slightly well known indie 'music curators' online at least are sort of followed because they provide an outlet for music that other people may not have heard of or they bring some piece of their own identity into the music so we know musically where the person is coming from. Fantano pretty much defines the 'casual' electronic music listening hipster who acts like they know what the fuyck they're talking about but but regurgitate sound bites from Pitchfork and others. If i met Fantano in real life I would be very suspicious that there is even a real soul of a human in there instead of a child training to be an adult still trying to find his own unique voice or footing/ground in life.

In other words listening to Fantano review squarepusher negatively is like trying to endure a Primal Rage tournament player lecturing you on why Mortal Kombat 3 has poor sprite collision

I feel this is a very inspired and wonderful piece of work from squarepusher, and I very much appreciate the retro references (in terms of sp and acid music) as well as the deliciously caustic features. It's a great piece to clear out the brain to. It takes a great deal of skill to balance cacophony and harmony is such a way that the listener is able to get into the groove of the music, but also be challenged by it. 9/10 idmz

Oh yeah the last trac...that beat that comes in about 2 minutes in and again @ the very end w/ that heavy bass & snare and "drunken" hi-hats is delicious. I only wish there were more buildup at the end tho, felt too abrupt for me.

i've been favouring the reverse order. i think i overall prefer the tracks on the second half, so it puts me in a good mood hearing those tracks first and upfront, and then i ease into the second half with still enjoying it and then bang finish on the upbeat colourful banger. the last track on the normal order feels like a weird last track, it kind of builds up into something quite nice and lovely and has me wanting more ?? so i prefer the reverse order :)

Normal order, Stor Eiglass last. You get the hint of the same melody in D Frozent, before being hit over the head with it.
