Got into Squarepusher back in 2005. Stopped taking an interest in him after Hello Everything, but this new album really hits the mark for me. Especially tracks like Exjag Nives and Kwang Bass.

I overdosed on it for the first few weeks, haven't listened to it since then. Still think it's great, just giving it a break for a while to come back at it with fresh ears.

The CD arrived 5 days ago, and every day I take a drive through the countryside blaring this album. Beavers, Canadian Geese, Buffalo, Cows, Deer, Horses, Llamas, Sheep, Turtles, Seagulls, & many a farmer within a few hundred feet of my vehicle have all shared in my listening of Damogen Furies. Pure Squarepusher funk. I find myself repeating Baltang Ort & D Frozent Aac the most at the moment. I'm always very thankful to hear new music from squarepusher.

This album sounds really huge too. The bass is very deep. Everything sounds practically menacing.. but very listenable and catchy. I might actually put this right behind Go Plastic. Tracks on that album still thoroughly blow my mind.... but I love the energy of this album a lot.

Stor Eiglass music video.

I only realised during the last 10 seconds that it was a VR thing. Kind of weird, and not very Squarepusher. Not bad though all the same.

what does it mean exactly that it's a VR thing?

(i'm still stuck in R, plz explain)

it means you can watch the video with a VR headset, like an Occulus Rift or that new Samsung jobbie, and look around in 360 degrees as the action unfolds. there's also a directional arrow in the youtube app, or you can click and drag to change where you're looking.

oh I see thanks for the heads up!

If you look behind you at the beginning you're exiting a giant bum.

Then at 1:30, the black diamond wipe occurs because you do the school playground vagina-hand thing with the jetpack guy.

This video is the tits (oh yeah, look down to see your tits)

I'm seriously not even sure where anyone is getting a brostep comparison from, this stuff is far too complex to be even considered brostep imo

its the sounds dude, i think im not the only one who has it made it known several times that everything about it is pretty top tier except for his sound choices (which are imo poor) . The bass line synth style reminds me too much of modern EDM, albeit granted it has a slightly unique grittier/custom made quality it still evokes the trailer for Spring Breakers

I hear the sounds too, but I think that's the whole point with this album "look how insane I can make these sounds go you edm noobs" or summat
Yeah I think that's more what I was trying to say. Like early-mid 90s IDM taking mainstream sounds and repurposing them. No brostep artist would dare to make anything like Kontenjaz, and not many could anyway.
exactly Tom has just shown the world how idiotic and dumb and effortless mainstream music is (again)

I've been getting that satirical vibe from Ufabulum too ( the Dark Steering track for example has allot of conventional EDM elements being ripped to shreds.) However, I feel that allot of the SP 'magic' lost in process sound-wise. I can appreciate Shobaleader One, Ufabulum and Damogen Furies on a conceptual level, and I have allot of respect for the point Tom is arguably trying to make with these records. It's just that, on a personal level, I can't seem to enjoy the composition of allot of the tracks as much as I could because of the mainstream EDM aesthetic he went for, and the compositions themselves really don't seem all that special considering some of the other stuff he's done in the past. It's like he's trying to prove a point in a way that is almost redundant, really. We know SP is miles ahead of everyone else regardless of him using and 'destroying' the aesthetics of mainstream EDM. I really hope his next release will be more focussed on pushing his own envelope instead of "making fun" of the efforts of others. If he doesn't I'm growing more and more concerned he's truly out of interesting ideas himself. ( Sometimes it feels like Ultravistor was the last record where he really pushed himself in regards to his own creative/production process. )
