yeah i think the predominance of rachel mcadam's booty in that shot is to specifically distract us from the knives on the wall, and it's working...

I think Farrell's cop could sink to the depths of hell like the Bad Lieutenant. His bad ass-ness in the first episode is surely only a taster. Having him sink without any redemption would be awesome. And what a great character for an actor to play.

Characters are mildly interesting and cinematography is good, but I feel like a TD season needs that extra.

what is honestly the appeal here? a run-of-the-mill crime procedural is suddenly elevated to "must watch tv" because mcconaughey spouts empty meaningless philisophical twaddle? oh he has a drinking problem but he's actually really smart. those twists and turns of character development are so obvious and trite it fucking puts me to sleep. hes an alcoholic so he has troubles. the other guy is having an affair cause his job is tough. the dude's daughter died so hes a loner who thinks a lot instead. he doesnt own a lot of stuff or w/e. what is original or interesting about ANY OF THIS? This is intro to screenwriting 101. amazed this got on HBO honestly. people are talking about pizzolato as this exciting newcomer. well he's a newcomer thats for fuckin sure. pedestrian writing that tells instead of shows - would also make sense that he was a failing novelist instead of a screenwriter - very poor understanding of visual storytelling other than "character sees something audience doesn't reaction shot" "reverse shot of thing character was reacting to" "roll credits"

Yeah cause The Wire really suffered from no occult history of Baltimore gangbangers.

Character driven drama can be some very rewarding TV.

There's still plenty of weird shit to wrap your head around, and a good mystery is always worth your time - and this is shaping up to be a good mystery.

Of course there will be those who say they can see the plot coming a mile away - if so, please post right now how you think this season will shape out and let's see how prescient you really are.

I'll take a stab at it for the lols:

McAdam's character ends up being the most disturbed and ends up plunged fully into the City Planner guy's sex pervert orgy world

Vaughn becomes a full on bad guy and gets too deep into it with whoever is behind the murder (probably the police chief guy who's drunk all the time)

Kitsch struggles with his past but ends up solving the whole thing

not sure I should even mention Farrell as he might be dead already. He'll be the curve ball probably.

City planner ended up being involved in a sex cabal with other powerful politicians and gangsters, the cult dad provides girls for their orgies, of which McAdam's becomes one, bringing all her past abuse full circle and she knifes her dad and he bleeds out.

i was really hoping colin farrell and mcadams were going to have breakfast lunch and dinner together.

i get a weird feeling from the show the guy who made it is a born again christian possibly, only based on the fact that he seems to find sexuality inherently dark, or at least thats my impression of every time its in the show. The scene of mcadams watching porn online was really strange

motorcycle guy found out the dead guy vince vaughn worked with was withdrawing 4000$ every month.

i think he might have been giving it to rachels mcadams's dad's Esalen institute place...
