i get a weird feeling from the show the guy who made it is a born again christian possibly, only based on the fact that he seems to find sexuality inherently dark, or at least thats my impression of every time its in the show. The scene of mcadams watching porn online was really strange

yeah, i noticed this as well... i'll go with the interpretation that mcadam's character finds sex to be dark/bad, so the scene was set that way to convey that mindset. she's obviously very anti-sex (see her reaction to her sister). i think her dad's reaction to her in the first episode showed that her opinion of sex isn't necessarily right, but now that we've heard that a bunch of her siblings died, idk if he's a good guy either. i guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think she's necessarily anti-sex - remember how she was introduced? The dude confused cause most girls he knew weren't into "that" (i like how he tries to cover it up to make it look like he's not sleeping around). Now we don't know for sure what "that" was, but I'd guess it wasn't missionary position. She's probably conflicted about some shit and possible abuse/trauma when she was in the commune they talked about "the good people".

She seemed entranced by the DP scene though.....

just cause she's against her sisters involvement in porn doesn't mean she's anti-sex... wtf. and her interaction with her dad was about his daughters choice to do porn based on some obv emotional trauma inflicted by him during their childhood or summat. shes very obv obsessed with sex i think, cause of past trauma, yet very serious about it cause it hits so close to home. duh

ah yeah, i totally forgot about that scene. i'll take back that statement of her being anti-sex, then, but it's still clear that she does have a complex relationship with it. i don't think it's just the director's viewpoint is what i'm meaning to say.

Yeah I would say she does not have a comfortable relationship with sex either.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with JE's hypothesis of the director being born again, he does show the CHIPS guy taking viagra before fucking. And all the dildos and so on of the city manager. Although the sex scenes haven't been as explicit yet in this season, so who knows.

were they implying he worked for a blackwater like military contractor? part of me hopes he ends up being the darkest fuck of the show since i'm sure someone with those kinds of scars who actually did work for mercs like Blackwater probably did some insanely dark zero accountability shit whereever they served

Yeah I think that's what that Black Mountain Security and not talking bout the desert was alluding to.

He has the look to be totally dark as fuck, his eyes are just the right amount of crazy.

yeah, plus there was that comment to his rummy partner about the bank teller and the gay guy who got out outside his hotel room. either he's a self hating closeted homosexual, or he's a rabid homophobe who's about to beat the shit out of that poor guy (or both).

that vince vaughn monologue at the start was a terrible combination of writing and acting though, he was passable in the first episode, and for the rest of this one ok as well; he can't handle the deep shit though, needs to remain a cartoon cut-out, he ain't got the chops.

Yeah oddly enough his style worked well for the intro. The only time it doesn't really work for me is when he's supposed to be angry.

Just can't really feel it brah.

the rat in the basement story was creepy and weird until i he said that paper mache line again, it made me cringe a little. its like vince vaughn doing time is a flat circle except much more awkward

yeah, but when they faded from those 2 water stains on the ceiling to that guys burnt out eye sockets... that was definitely a moment.

this episode really amped up the David Lynch feels of this season. the director is definitely influenced by him.

vaughn's weird acting or like, not acting or whatever.. def. creates a surreal vibe

Yeah I softened up to this extremely toned down form of acting. Especially the scene in the car where there's a closeup on his face, felt ultra surreal.

The PMC and cult stuff with the father is cool. It has a parallel to the older history in season 1 with the vhs tape etc. It's just not shown at all but we're only on second ep.

Shia for lead role in S3

Should be shia and nic cage. Deep philosophical car talks between these two would be too good.

Real talk though this season's been great so far imo, can't wait for the next episode
