Steps for utopia:

1. Replace as many jobs as possible with Roberts so people only work to make more robots or run companies.

2. Provide a state income for every person.

4. No one has anything to do so they spend all their time enjoying their hobbies.

5. Everyone is enjoying life.

6. World peace.

7. We spread out system throughout the galaxy.

Automation is extremely beneficial to society. It sucks for the people directly affected but overall it's a beneficial phenomenon.

most people are going to be affected by automation. So given how we haven't bothered setting up a system that delivers a fair standard of living to what is going to be an ever 3expanding population of the replaced by machinery class, i would say that currently the endgame of automation is not 'extremely beneficial' for society. Far from it.

Business and by extension society wasn't always run by cunts. There were some that could see that their workers were also their consumers.

It's a long term concept, not a short term concept.

Additional problem: by the nature of "progress", robots won't be built to last, but built to be replaced. They will become more "efficient", they will not be backwards compatible with old models, and companies will spend outrageous amounts of money to keep up with the robojoneses. Industrial service machinery is expensive as hell. It will cost big businesses tons of money to replace these suckers. Small businesses won't be able to upgrade, and will be even further outpaced in production.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm building a scrap yard. The raw materials are considered trash. It's a business that can only become more valuable in the near and far future. Bring out your dead! And spare me the moon mining shpiel.

Good points Luke v, with economies of scale the smaller players that can't afford the upgrades etc won't be able to compete with those that get special deals from robotics manufacturers buy in bulk, probably get government concessions, and also the suggestion that these robotics companies will use their eventual position to yep.

Nwae. Let's hope we can all reprap our way outta this mess, fixing it individually from the bottom up without any great government run social plans to save us that you just know will be more chains around our necks.

Planned obsolescence.

I'm sure plenty of economists have crunched the numbers on this one for sure.

My fully automated sports team is better than your fully automated sports team. My city can afford the best algorhythms.

At least we won't have worry about boogers or urine in our Wendy's hamburgers (hamboogers lol). But this may be a potential grey area...

Well, I imagine the people at the counter will be replaced last, and are not going anywhere, anytime soon. Though the people in the back will be replaced first. :)_
