kayaking !!

it's funny i was watching this doco the other month about the south west coast of south america, with it's massive rainfall in the mountains and flooding torrents of water belting out of the mountains to the sea and thinking, "that would not be a good place to go kayaking". He was sea kayaking though and the sea got quite rough, and it's fucking cold down there.

11 mins in for kayaking .. that probably inspired the kayaking that killed the kayaker ...

there was controversy around the doco (5 1/2 mins in i presume that it's those shots, they superimposed footage from another volcano)-- bbc admits to faking volcano eruption footage -- wouldn't have happened in attenborough's day, they are probably raking in more money than ever reselling these docos through bbc worldwide and yet they can't do what they used to do and have a small team stake out an area for an age to get that perfect shot, fuck it, we've got the adobe editing suite.

feeling stupid for posting twice in a thank you thread (what's more to say really?). however -

ae, you inspire me when i think i'm beyond inspiration.

you tear my mind apart so i can reset it again.

you make me wanna make my own musics even when i only wanna listen to your musics.

you let me forget about grammar, the black and the white keys.

you, sirs, are good people.

thank you, bro'n'sane o'teh 'chre!

grammatically yours,

rst

tfw you take the stereo difference of bladelores and then isolate the left channel and there is this vocoded noise sound that shows up at 4:47 that sounds like a british man's voice (sean's voice?) saying "this is the last time you will ever hear melody on an AE track"

is it just me? anyone else noticed this???

I can't hear it my self but I've read about it.

The live sets have re-ignited my passion for top shelf laser Robo-Cop vs. mecha-L. Ron Hubbard street fight type shit.

Thank you Autechre for inspiring me to pursue max/msp as a serious hobby for years to come! Once I delved into the program, there was another part of your music that was opened to my mind as I began to create my own systems. I love it!

I can't wait for your next release!

Cheers.

Something tells me I should try to learn Max/MSP, but I'm worried I lack the intellectual capacity for it.

Also I finally ordered a pair of TNF low-top winter boots...something I've been meaning to do for over three months now

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

it is hard... at first.

once you understand that everything is basically flowing (like a river) connecting boxes and shit, you just need to understand how each box (object) works. don't worry.

how hard is max/msp compared to a normal programming language like c c++ python etc

Programming visually is a bit of a mindfuck at first, when you're used to textual programming. Certain problems that require two lines of code must be solved in a very meticulous manner in Max.

it is just fucking stupid.

if this boxes-with-wires thing would be any good, we would all be programming this way.

but just a small bunch of people who *think* they are better off doing it this way are actually doing it this way, and they live on a small island jerking each or off.

granted, there are some domains where a visual/spatial signal graph is a useful interaction model, namely audio routings...

but using this same abstraction model for general logic is just dumb.

tldr: you're better off with an actual programming language.
