I think "objectively" they're pretty much on par but Super was earlier and set the bar... so yeah.

The new dodonpachi is so absolutely sick , Daiffukatsu. .. only got to play it for a little bit in Austin tho at arcade town. Jesus fucking christ that game is so FUCKING SICK !!!!!!!!!

Massive old school shooter fan here! Have you ever played any shmups by Compile? Zanac, Guardian Legend, MUSHA, Space Megaforce, the Aleste series?? Those are the absolute best of the best as far as I'm concerned. The coolest weapons/power up systems, the best enemy AI, dynamic difficulty levels, fun scoring systems, gorgeous music and visuals...Theyve got it all! Sad that some of them are so hard to find (Been dying to play Gun-Nac but it goes for like $150!).

the thing is i've lost so much older material thru hard drive failures and not backing up and etc. would have to go thru my storage and look through some things. i'll keep it on the brain!

i havent played any of those but MUSHA sounds familiar. im not familiar with any of those other ones. i looked them up on youtube tho. those are from back in the day for sure !! i used to have NARC for the NES when i was a kid

do u guys feel like MAME/Emulators controls are always delayed/slow/buggy no matter what? i mean on the frontend of things u can adjust latency by editing ini's and stuff and whatever but there seems to be a problem usually directly with the ROM itself and unless u can reprogram the PCB theres nothing u can do about it. thats why i will never get rid of my PS Vita cause IMHO the controls are the tighest of any modern console (handheld or otherwise) . buttons on that thing are so fucking tight and responsive. would be perfect tho if the shoulder buttons had click action instead of mash.

 

PS2 was usually pretty fast with ported games. i mean it's essentially an emulator right? it's not like they re-write the engine they just put the ROM on a disc right? o man i remember shitting my pants when i saw that ps2 discs were blue underneath lol

what a fantastic set! i have it on repeat. my fav moments are the massive hit track that starts at 13 min mark and the hip-hop-gantz graf mix. perfect! also, the closing track... speechless!

I have the 3DS version and played it for about 15 minutes. I couldn't get into it simply because I'd just finished with SMTIV and was all SMT'ed out. I will give it another shot eventually.

also Cyrax is awesome, he's probably the only over powered character I regularly chose, as a 'fuck you' joke I would pick Sektor when battling people who chose Cyrax and keep doing an obscure uppercut combo that was only 2 hits, i think it was literally just LK, D+LP, and it almost made no sense to do it (other than humiliating your opponent ) because he didn't really have any cool moves you could do after except jump kick or shoot a rocket (they disabled the teleport punch after the combo). I love the ground bombs though, those would always fuck people up because you couldn't block them, and it also sets up a juggle

Guardian Legend is my favorite NES game ever. Its like the perfect marriage of Zelda, Metroid, and a vertical shmup. Overworld plays like Zelda, top down action RPG style, but you have a badass space laser to blow all the enemies away with. You gain exp and level up your weapons and health, etc. too. The cool part is when you get to a dungeon, the girl you play as morphs into a fucking spaceship and you play a vertical scrolling shmup level, usually with a crazy boss at the end. Beating those unlocks more rooms, areas, weapons etc. that allow you to explore more of the overworld, ala Metroid. It's really a phenomenal game. The only downside is no saves!! So unless you're playing on an emulator,get used to typing in 32-character passcodes to continue your progress.

 

In short - can't recommend it enough!!

also saw you in atlanta. tried to find you after yr set/the show to say thanks but only saw rob and sean and rob. anyways definitely enjoying hearing this set a good bit cleaner than at terminal west. had an amazing time at the show as it started a 3 week vacation from work (honeymoon).

 

fyi i've hated all of the metal gear anthology games i've played because they just gave you infinite lives/continues which totally defeats the purpose.

 

street fighter v seems pretty promising if you were a fan of sfiv. i played the first beta and thoroughly enjoyed it. i'm more of a tekken man myself tho
