Oasis sent a demo tape to Radiohead sometime in the early 90s as they wanted to open a few shows for them. Radiohead said no and picked some other band. After Oasis became famous and the press asked Thom about it he said something like: "They sound cliche, boring, etc." and Oasis took it personally.

 

While it was probably not right for Thom to just bag on them, Oasis are the ones still angry two decades later for that small comment.

There's this Belgian magazine called HUMO that came up with a nice slogan for an ad campaign late 90's:

This magazine is always one of the top sponsors of the biggest Belgian festivals, so during that time they would have had banners and sold t-shirts that said FUCK OASIS at festivals where Oasis performed.

(if i recall correctely.. i vaguely remember something from the latter but I can't seem to find any pictures to confirm)

I still think Oasis was WAY overplayed on MTV back in the late '90s, for such a mediocre band. And that, coincidentally, was around the time MTV started turning to shit with its stupid fucking reality shows. But I'll apply the brakes before I go full-on soapbox.

So i can't really wrap my head around the fact that someone can be an Oasis fan. Like, what sets them apart from other run of the mill alt rock bands? How does Oasis distance themselves from other bands. What was the moment that made people go, "wow, this is so much different than what i used to, i like it."

I guess Oasis is mediocre music for mediocre people

I don't get the spiraling-out-of-control hate for Nickelback; their first album was a fun grungy romp:

Wow, that Nickelback song is even worse than I could imagine. Absolutely terrible, and I didn't realize until now how much of they ripped off Nirvana.
