Yeah exactly. I'd be so f'en pissed if I paid big money to a concert like that and this happened.

He's talking some real shit mixed into gobbledygook. From an armchair Freud stance, he's good support for the diathesis-stress model. When his mom died, he went on a tear like this. Kim was recently threatened and robbed and now another meltdown. Normally, this stuff is good for his brand in an Andy Kaufman way but he's really threatening his true moneymaker (ticket sales).

Definitely.

But, the problem with the diathesis-stress model is that

it's kind of a 'black box' hypothesis, in that "diathesis" is wildly under-specified, so in a way it's a bit like offering "magic" as an explanation: it doesn't specify the underlying mechanism.

I've tried to separate the artist from the art over the years instead of spending time dwelling on the person who makes the music or whatever. Meaning, just appreciate/enjoy the art if it appeals to you, ignore it if it doesn't. Don't think of the person behind it or let that persona taint your appreciation and augment how their art makes you feel. It's really hard to do sometimes, especially with people who have their ego sticking out like a sore thumb in their music.

Like with Michael Jackson. It's fucked he was (more than likely) diddling kids... absolutely horrible if true. But I love the art that came from his head and his collaborations with musicians/composers.

Pretty much what I've come around to feel about Kanye. I really like his early work and some of his newer stuff for how it makes me feel and some of the lyrics he used to have. The guy is a total spazz in the public light which is what garners him attention and hype behind his art -- sounds to me like most famous musicians and artists. Meh.

Jeez, just looked at one of the tracks on that album on discogs to see who's behind it:

Fade

Co-producer – Anthony Kilhoffer, Benji B, Mike Dean, Ryan "Charlie Handsome" Vojtesak*

Featuring, Vocals – Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign*

Producer – Kanye West

Written-By – A. Post*, C. Grant*, E. Holland Jr.*, K. West*, L. Heard*, N. Whitfield*, Rapture Stewart, R. Owens*, R. Wilson*, T. Griffin*

Blimey, is that enough people ?! Especially as the track just uses this throughout and yet somehow makes it 10 times worse

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

all this would be cool if the music was good

That shit always amuses me. The average mainstream hip-hop track involves like 20+ people and yet sounds like a stoned kid produced a beat with a dozen percussion hits in 15 minutes in Fruity Loops.

I get tired more of people over-thinking him, there's always such a meta discussion when you read a review of his work.

His rants swing both ways too  - when I saw him at ACL in 2011 we went into a rant about how humbled he was by the dancers and touring musicians and visual/set people he was working with, and how they had been doing their art and work for much longer than him for far less credit and public following.

probably a bewildering set of stresses both real and imagined.. sometimes a person needs a forced vacation.

Sorry it's riddled with typos because I forgot to OCD second-pass it

But TL;DR = stress spirals out of control because our amygdala tags certain of our memories/maps-of-the-world as "threatening" in our hippocampus, which tells our hypothalamus (I think) to release cortisol so we're jacked and ready to deal with threats, and if those threats (whether past present or future) aren't analyzed and mapped to the amygdala's satisfaction, then you continue producing cortisol and that is precisely what stress and anxiety are

And if someone is resistant to making new maps for whatever reason, you get a neurotic individual

One thing I've heard (specifically from Jack Donoghue of Salem) is that Kanye is very nice about crediting anyone who worked on a song with him even if a skeletal portion of their idea remains in the final song.

Holy shit you're right e.g. L.Heard being the composer of that Mystery of Love track that was sampled throughout Fade

isnt that pretty standard when sampling others? you look at the credits for pretty much any recent mainstream rap album it's a ton of people in there. kendrick had to credit MJ as a writer on a track just cause he says "Annie are you ok" twice on it, not even using the smooth criminal melody
