??????????????????????

the best songs on rooms (she died there, lay me down, u don't survive) the reverby pads, pitched down vocals, sizzle crackle, knock knock beats which are all very reminiscent of my favorite parts of untrue which is the first place i heard any of that stuff.

I've enjoyed Machinedrum ever since he made the transition from idm-underlord "Machine Drum" to footwerk-fusion lush null master, but he seems to have lost momentum since moving on to Ninja Tune. If he and Jimmy Edgar want to run like metrosexual stallions into a wildfire of blazing R&B tropes then good for them, but I'll pass.

This is like the soundtrack to a multiculti soda advert I never want to see.

wow.

haven't listened to anything from trevor since the last record he put out for m3rck

WHAAAA!?

I love Room(s) and Vapor City (the former is a little better imo) and his remixes from his Normrex (2009) and Planet Mu era are excellent.

Bob's right though, I've found his post-Ninja Tune stuff increasingly less and less engaging and interesting. This track is slick and enjoyable and all but it's like him showcasing a Lamborgini at a supercar expo, it doesn't stand out from the plethora of trap-esque club oriented tracks that seem a dime a dozen these days. I'm not talking EDM either, I've heard a lot of "underground" and lesser known labels and artists put out this stuff a lot, including the hip and overwrought acclaim with genres like PC Music. It took over vaporwave too.

I don't want to join the hate train or speculate on his motives or his personal goals. I can't make a track this great. I can't muster any valid reason to tell someone this isn't enjoyable. I just don't really like it too much.

trevor?

I'd be genuinely interested to see what kind of tunes Trevor Phillips can come up with, the crazy bastard that he is

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

sorry. i mean travis.

i meant to listen to room(s) but forgot or got distracted by another release. i've realized, i can't afford to listen to a lot of music- both due to budget but also due to limited time

surprised somebody of such calibre of machinedrum put out a tune this lame, maybe he thinks he will go up a few grades with the whores and drug dealers?

He's making what the label wants him to. It's not in his control. He gets little time to make the music he wants to and despises it. On the opposite end of the spectrum he could be making what he wants at the cost of being broke. Hard to be a musician these days. Would love to hear more tstewart stuff. That seems in line with what he actually wants to write

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Travis has made enough great tunes over the years and this is benign enough where I'm not bothered. It's certainly no worse than current Hudmo or Rustie, which is...yeesh.

We're almost the same age so I have been a fan of his since Now You Know, was a regular at his underground Cassette parties in the mid 2000s in Brooklyn, and Room(s) continues to be a fantastic record. He isn't going to kill it every time and admittedly it's not a great track, but I imagine there are label pressures as others have said.

I'm biased but he's earned his place as one of the modern greats for me, hope he returns to his experimental roots soon. Same for you Jimmy Edgar, dude was killing it in the early 2000s but ay carumba...

People hating need to listen to "Want to 1 2?"

All this is is a better produced version of that album.

Fact is when you are trying to make a living off music you have to filter in shit like this. You just cannot make music you want to 100% of the time and expect to eat. Times have changed.

He's been releasing real dope stuff while releasing stuff like this so there's no point in bitching.

^ yeah, and bear in mind that he's also recently been producing singles in that style for people like Dawn Donk Richard, so it's just a thing right now.

springboarding off someone else's staylz and "aping" are two different things. Vizion has a lot more going on in it than Burial could achieve, or want to go for anyway, with his stripped-back and raw approach to writing music.

edit: also, U Still Lie

there's hope. hell why i am saying that i don't find the new track alarming at all. not my cup of tea but I don't think he's selling out or whatever. not even sure he's compromising to make more "in demand" stuff and if he is who cares...it is meant to fill dancefloors anyway

I like this, it's pretty mainstream clubby but still has some of his trademark sound to it, nice blend really
