springboarding off someone else's staylz and "aping" are two different things. Vizion has a lot more going on in it than Burial could achieve, or want to go for anyway, with his stripped-back and raw approach to writing music.

edit: also, U Still Lie

well then travis is springboarding into the deep end of burial (not to mention BoC) pool on Vapor City.

The Dos Puertas track, though not quite as bad as Angel Speak, sounds like it's trying SO hard, but it just doesn't do its own thing well and it certainly can't stand next to actual club hits; it has no center, it's just intros/builds and a bridge, no meat/hook. That's its worst sin really, if you're gonna be a club hit, you better fucking go all out and be memorable and catchy and strong, it ain't got none of those things. Lacks heart/guts/and definitely originality. I would be perfectly happy never hearing it ever again. Trash bin.

it's how he likes to unwind after he's come from the show afterparty where he's been sitting on a couch getting fistbumps from bros and his moustache twirled by coked-out broads.

I hope Trevor Travis isn't reading this thread right now. If he was appalled by WATMM backlash three years ago, there's no telling what impact this thread might have.

Travis, if you're reading this, know that I still respect you as an artist. I wasn't particularly feeling Angel Speak, but you've proven multiple times you're capable of laying down some fresh trax. I've been following your work for more than a decade now, so I still have faith.

What? What BoC sounds like Vapor City? Even the Burial attribution is limited. Vapor City was fantastic in its own right though, still gets a lot of plays from me.

Pretty much this. I mean I can hear the production work that went into the latest tunes, but it just ain't my thang. I mean, my bonner is still kill, but that's aight.

tell me that analogue sounding synth @3:00 doing an extremely BoC lick followed by a guy spelling out "L-O-V-E" is not super BoC.

I'm sure it's a conscious homage. But like, doesn't mean it isn't unoriginal.

well trying to be positive there seems to be a lot of watmmers who care about his music, Room(s) was a really excellent record, and I don't really like that Juke style

people just get a bit disappointed, 'cause we know Travis has the skills to come up with mustard tunes

Trevor if you're reading this, know that I DON'T respect you as an artist, or as an owner/operator of a moustache.

SO 2 and half minutes of analogue synths and a guy spelling LOVE is riding BoC's dick? I'll grant that's an homage, but that's hardly representative of the whole of Vapor City.

he does reference BoC though. it was especially clear on some of the earlier glitch hop albums.

This could be said of a lot of early Lone and Tycho as well.

only heard Vapor city and it's great, had massive fun with it but i got tired of it soon, very easy listening

no doubt he was heavly influenced by other electronic musics and that's not a bad thing cause he made a solid record

def will give it a decent listen when this new album is out

There's a new track called "Tell U" which sounds really nice to me.

I'll tell u what... i can't find this dang track anywhere

Maybe this is a clip of it. i betta tell u

Sounds wonderful, can't wait to hear it in full.

there's hope. hell why i am saying that i don't find the new track alarming at all. not my cup of tea but I don't think he's selling out or whatever. not even sure he's compromising to make more "in demand" stuff and if he is who cares...it is meant to fill dancefloors anyway

Another one

I like this, it's pretty mainstream clubby but still has some of his trademark sound to it, nice blend really

oooh the clip in the instagram video sounds pretty bufffff

yeah don't think any of this is him selling out, he just wants to make something with wider appeal and maybe make some extra bucks. no shame in that

however, not to sure he has got the simplified version of his sound down (yet), i think 'like' is the perfect word for how i feel about it

also .. the style and genre this new stuff is going in .. isn't nec targeted at overall watmm crowd in the same way that his earlier work was. it feels irrelevant for watmm to be complaining about a trap track lol

this this this

In fact I actually applaud his success. It's cool to see a IDM bedroom producer become a talented producer and jack of all trades style wise. He's also one of those few artists who has a diverse but distinct sound - you can just tell if a track is a Machinedrum track pretty quickly, in a good way.

basically if you have a detuned reverbed pad you are boc and if you have a pitched down delayed vocal you are burial

This is quite a departure from his Merck releases in the early 2000s, especially Now You Know and Urban Biology, back when his stuff was geekier. This new shit is just vapid.

(wonders if Travis is a WATMMer in secrete)

he reads WATMM (and then regrets it after).

oh lordy Benn Jordan's reply. He gets so much aggro from electronic music fans. I think he's alright.

Travis has made enough great tunes over the years and this is benign enough where I'm not bothered. It's certainly no worse than current Hudmo or Rustie, which is...yeesh.

We're almost the same age so I have been a fan of his since Now You Know, was a regular at his underground Cassette parties in the mid 2000s in Brooklyn, and Room(s) continues to be a fantastic record. He isn't going to kill it every time and admittedly it's not a great track, but I imagine there are label pressures as others have said.

I'm biased but he's earned his place as one of the modern greats for me, hope he returns to his experimental roots soon. Same for you Jimmy Edgar, dude was killing it in the early 2000s but ay carumba...

jimmy edgar and jets (jimmy edgar + machinedrum) are still killing it, but imo recent machinedrum plus most of the techy stuff jimmy edgar releases on his own label feels lackluster to their older stuff.

some examples for very recent tracks by jimmy edgar or jets, that, in my opinion, are killing it:

I remember back in 2007 Travis commented on Ae's MySpace page expressing his gratitude and their influence on his work. So I guess you could call that a dead giveaway.
