OK, since my last post this has hit some kind of tipping point and I think it has met if not exceeded Twin Peaks Season 2 levels.  At least Twin Peaks Season 2 works as camp.

I'm only on ep2, but I love that they use the camcorder from Back to the Future.

i hate how serials now are split into micro-scenes which are just single plot points, less than a minute long, just hopping from character to character. fucking hate it.

On episode five right now. Really enjoying the music to this. There seems to be a bit more "hey look it's the 80s, look at this thing from the 80s remember? that's where they are right now oh jeez" than the first season.

Didn't think there'd be a Temple of Doom scene bit in ST. Only thing they missed was the assassin coming out of the wall mural. Sad.

Thanks user487363530. And user4873635301. Now 48736353001.

basically they watched a bunch of 80s kids movies like the goonies, stand by me and indiana jones....and then mashed these together with shitty 80s horror like house, it, gremlins, lost boys etc

winona is still no 1 tho

just so many moments of god this is garbage...those bits where the characters reconcile and talk it out...and the ginger girl and douche dickhead!!!!!! why

Yikes, that chicago ep...Were they going for some kind of Warriors vibe? Sad.

Loved it. Thought the production quality and cinematography improved tenfold. Yea that Chicago stuff was a little meh, but everything else was really great. I loved how they showed the much darker sides of people and humanity in this season. My wife was not so happy with all of the extra violence, so that made me like it even more... hehe...

The more I think about it, the whole Chicago gang episode was some of shittest telly I've watched in years. The rest was ok.

man I do not get the hate for that episode - certainly the weakest part of the season but I didn't think it was totally horrible

I wonder how the increased awareness of the embrace of 80s synthpop and modern synthwave by neofascists over the past few years (for example, one of the things that was in the recent Breitbart email leak was Devin Saucier, director of the white nationalist organization Youth for Western Civilization, specifically naming synthpop and related styles as cultural signifiers "improtant to the movement" during the ongoing discussion with Milo Yiannopolis and Steve Bannon about how to repackage neofascist an white supremacist philosophy in a more broadly marketable way) will impact the course of the 80s nostalgia trend.  I'm guessing not at all, and I'm not so sure I'd want it to since I doubt many o the people making it are on board with that (I hope).

I don't think it'll become massively widespread, though I've always found reactionary fascination with the era strange... I'd certainly describe culture then as "metrosexual".

Stoked to watch OA II. The movement thing never bothered me, anyone familiar with Druidic studies will recognize the importance of movement to get to higher planes.

Finished S2 today, definitely feels more mapped out now that they have a plan for multiple seasons. Much bigger FX budget, not as much fake crying from Winona was good, liked bringing in Sean Astin as a tribute to Goonies. There seemed to be multiple levels of 80s references, from the obvious to the sublime. Also the parody of 80s porn scene was the hardest I laughed the whole season.

6 episodes into season 2.

Enjoying it so far but not really sure of the endgame. "Mystery" element seems to be something they are going back and forth on. I'm glad they are still being vague about what the monster is because the "hive virus" stuff is only so interesting to me. I hope they maintain this sense of wondering and bafflement instead of some neat, tidy, and lame explanation. Digging this more "gray area" portrayal of the government scientists trying to wrestle with a problem though.

Dustin is really pissing me off. Hopper is kind of fucking up a bit too, but more from not being focused and getting flustered. I like Max ok, enjoying the greater focus on Lucas. Mike seems to have this general moodiness that is plausible but kind of dull (missing El mostly I guess, having detached relationship with parents), I can tell why they've focused on him less so far. Steve is also like turning into one of the best characters. Same with the Beyers in general. Will is knocking it out the park acting wise.
