btw re macOS Sierra: unless you really like the beachball, do yourself a favor and don't upgrade. I had an early beta and it was super sluggish, lot of new background stuff happening which you cannot disable. Rolled back to El Cap. People are reporting the same issues are still in the GM. Looks like they didn't get around to sort out the kinks.

Thanks for the warning. The last few updates have been very stable upon release, so I probably wouldn't have even thought about checking reports before upgrading. Will certainly be more hesitant this time.

When describing this change, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller gave a peculiar defense. "The reason to move on: courage. The courage to move on and do something new that betters all of us."

It's funny, that statement of intent, 'courage' is the kind of bullshit that corporations force down the throats of their employees internally these days. This might seem to work in the totalitarian environment of a business where noone wants to rock the boat and openly tell the higher ups to fuck off with their nonsense, but it won't have the same effect in the open market. Unfortunately (for apple) the apple marketing team is so wrapped up in corporate speak that they probably don't realise that out in the wild, people will call it for what it is.

yeah, he had a better head for business than the sycophantic yes men that he left behind. Perhaps if he cared about the company he should have spent a bit of time on a succession plan that involved people fit for purpose and not solely those people he needed in place whilst he was alive to carry out his will, the company was left with his butlers and hand maidens if you will.

hindsight is 20/20. it is true but i think he was too dominated by his astrology. double fixed am i right? apples and th serpents...

I don't know much about the man, but did get the impression at the time from the odd quote here and there that the only people around him were the yes men. I don't think this type of character is proven to make the best leader. So in this case it would have been foresight rather than hind. ... So he was into astrology !! I spose you can read whatever you want into the tea leaves or the vague description in an astrologers daily prescription, so it was just a way to reinforce his decision making perhaps, rather than inform it. As i said though, i don't know much about the man, the first apple product i've ever owned was the ipud air 2 that i bought the other year because i thought that it would encourage me to actually fill out my sketching, heh.

Also hi reruth, been a while mate.

Any news on if current iPhone6s prices are any lower in the US, or if they will continue to drop?

For some reason, I'm finding it incredibly hard to find any info about this.

Apple stuff just seems to be so inconvenient already, removing the headphone jack just seems to be yet more inconvenience. The wireless headphones are just bluetooth, so will be worse qual than 3.5mm connection. Re wired digital connection, the inconvenience of having to have a separate pair of compatible headphones outweighs any gains in quality, which will be non existant anyway as Apple/Beats have never made a good quality pair of headphones in the past, and I doubt any decent manufacturers will bother doing apple only compatible shite.

Presumably if the headphone dac is no longer in the phone it's in the adapter?

(emphasis mine on the bolded part) - are you serious? There is a whole industry built around Apple-only or primarily Apple-based "compatible shite". Adapters and Lighting headphones and the like will only be the start.

Really? I started at beta 2, and it's been incredibly stable, and I'm running it on a 2011 Mac Book Pro (non-Retina) with 16 GB ram and a SSD. I rarely see the updated beach ball these days...

one thing that frustrates me about the lightning port is how many times it says the device is not compatible with a cable. that shit is infuriating. that is going to happen now with 3rd party headphones.

yea dunno, probably not catastrophic on every configuration. Still, would be cautious before upgrading & wait for reports imo. Seems Lion-level of buggy to me.

What cables do you use? I've never had any trouble with Anker ones.

Only buy MFI-certified cables. Amazon makes pretty good (and affordable) cables.

I'm on GM now, and no issues. I guess it all depends on the hardware, what other software you have, etc. Computers are a funny business for sure.

just upgraded to sierra, not having issues. i have a 2015 macbook pro retina, so maybe that matters. some bugginess with ios 10 though. and still no new itunes build?

why would i lie about an upgrade to an os? i've been using it for all of four hours and so far, no issues. what a weird thing to accuse someone of.

waterproof is more important than phones for me. I almost destroyed my hearing with an ipod. You take them outside in the city or town and you turn up,,up,,up. to drown out noise and you kill your ears. Thankful i stopped

just don't mindlessly install the upgrade, is all I'm trying to say.

I belong to the Apple developers forum, and I can tell you despite all the one-off postings like that (which many go unanswered because they are so specific and in some cases unreproducible), the majority of devs are NOT having issues with Sierra.

Add to that the major Mac news sites like MacRumors and 9to5 Mac would be reporting if there were widespread issues with Sierra.

They're trying to figure out how to disable the headphone jack on Macs with the new iTunes build :dadjoke:

not accusing you of anything, tbh how can you assess the OS in 4 hours of usage though?
