The Obligatory iPhone 7/Apple Watch "Series 2" Thread

I've made hundreds of headphone jack adapters for devices that don't even output audio.

 

Pineapples sound like butterflies raving on clouds.

apple are obviously facilitating the "wearing headphones without listening to anything" ethos

Watching a lot of the geek bench videos, I'm surprised the 6s gets almost 20 mins of extra battery life outta iOS 10 than on 9.3.5, the last update to 9.3.4 increased my battery by almost an hour. iOS 10 seems to open apps slightly quicker, while 9.3.5 closes them quicker. No biggie.

 

Now gimme the damn Mario game, I'll play it, lol

I think for the next few years, we're going to see a lot of 'meh' smart phones because all these companies are busy looking for the next big thing. 

 

And I don't mean the Apple iWatch.

I still use a brickphone and a separate mp3 player with Rockbox.

It will be interesting to see if Apple bucks that trend next year - 10th anniversary of the iPhone - you know they're going to do something special to celebrate, and hopefully not just some exclusive colour or some shite like that.

Mobile phones have reached their peak - at this point, it will take something truly innovative to stir up the markets again. But, what if the mobile phone has become an appliance, something that first and foremost is meant to do tasks in a familiar way, thus sapping all the innovation from it by necessity of familiarity?

id say just having a phone be functional would be innovative at this point. one that i can actually use the music app, or one that doesnt melt or catch on fire. how about a shatter proof glass?

I've heard the same - I've held off on getting a 7 (I currently have a 6 Plus) just because whatever they release next year should deviate a bit more from the year-over-year incremental design and hardware upgrades.

Having said that, the 4 was the best one they ever made. It really felt like the future (for a while).

Been on this s3 for a few years now - Having the ZeroLemon battery (meaning I only have to charge my phone twice a week despite being on for 24hr a day), an sd card that I've never filled (I only like to have a few albums on there at a time that I cycle every few months depending on my mood/the season), and the still speedy even on my old phone latest build of cyanogenmod... there's literally no reason I need to upgrade at the moment

Yeah, I kind of wish I had held on to my Note 3.

One thing that is really kind of sad about modern day tech is how it's being used.

 

The latest phones have more computing power than a five year old desktop - and yet they are used for sending snap chat pictures of your cat to people you only barely know.

if samsung retained removable battery and an ir blaster for their new note 7 it would be a simply perfect phone. ir blaster is useful, but removable battery is just essential. without it you're knowingly buying a phone with a pretty limited expiration date.

very curious about their new gorilla glass thingie, it's supposed to make it very durable and allow it to survive drops from ~1.5m.

 

but besides having a shitty fingerprint scanner, not being waterproof, and speaker located on its back - i'm perfectly happy with my note 4 and won't upgrade it for a while it seems.

 Those melted phone pics are scary. This is why i never leave my mobile devices on charge when i'm not around. The just in case factor is too high.

 Here's an innovation that we haven't seen yet. Integration of a lab on a chip so that you can analyse everything from the air around you to what's in the food you're eating. That will be awesome. I'm glad that apple have added waterproofing i've been waiting for them to do this because now it will hopefully be standard across the industry. This is why i bought my sony phone. Well one reason, it is so robust, dropped it so many times on hard surfaces from a height, not so much as a scratch. I don't think it's water proof anymore though, even though the case is amazing, the little seal to cover up the USB broke off and later eventually the grill over the speaker said goodnight, but if you drop it, it's fine heh.

 

 Chip speeds need to get faster for decent augmented reality, so that's still a ways off, but what i've been waiting for for a long long long long time.

Heads up for iOS 10 downloaders. Apple have fucked about with the touch ID to unlock the screen. Totally counterintuitive now. You have to touch the screen and/or press the home button.

 

Why change it? Oh yeah, its a new 'feature', I guess.

They probably changed it to be "courageous"

It's because the fingerprint readers on the 6s and (I assume) 7 made it really hard to look at the lock screen without unlocking the phone. I don't know why they pushed this feature to older phones, but it's and improvement for the newer ones. Edited September 13, 2016 by doublename

It's a little disappointing that the iphone7 doesn't come bundled with wireless buds but the note7 doesn't bundle a fire extinguisher or oven mitts so..

installing now with reckless abandon. no mac. no itunes. straight ota. looking forward to wiping out all of the useless apple apps cluttering up my phone. update finished. no brick. fucking stupid that now playing is on a separate "card" when you swipe up from the bottom now. there's plenty of room for it on the main "card"

yeh apple said they fixed the bricking now.

 

re home button: go to settings > general > accessibility > home button. There's an option which kind of sort of returns to the old behavior but not quite. It's different than on iOS 9 (worse)

I thought you could set it to "lift to wake", and a warning: in a super humid area like Florida the fingerprint ID is fucking useless. Found that out myself.

looks like they moved/changed the dimensions of background images or something? my custom made wallpaper is definitely aligned all wonky now...
