are BOC easily the most popular electronic act on watmm today?

or maybe they just have the craziest most devoted fans of them all...or is it just the times of the redmoon and the 666? or is it always like this? I never post on the other forums these days...

It's that there's more to talk about than the music with Boards of Canada. They also have the most recent releases.

1) BOC are the only ones with news right now, however ridiculous it is

2) The fans are by FAR the most obsessed and weird

3) Threads here are definitely quantity over quality

Guest Raddcliff

agree with six's 3 reasons...and boc fans DO seem to be more fanatic.

but boc have put out new music unlike the others. in my opinion ae - untitled was a dropping of the ball. and aphex seems to only rerelease old stuff. squarepusher has been silent.

and boc definitely do generate interest through mysticism.

on top of all that though...the music IS really good and manages to generate discussion.

"Threads here are definitely quantity over quality"

well AFX is "leading" in that category...I just posted how many posts there is in different artists forums...

I think why it is most posts tho in this forum is that breakcore fans comes to this harmonic (beautiful place) peace love and happiness forum and just diss us because they are sad that they got so much anger inside and must let it all out on the harmless harmonic BOC fans. ;)

AFX threads 260 BOC 246 threads there you go

I wonder whos selling the most units these days...I mean I heard its really been downhill since the days of slsk and other peer to peer softwares came into the game...it have really hurt the electronic music industry of what I heard. I wonder how many copies these artists sell today--

Here's how I look at it:

Aphex: Although it stirred up some controversey, Analord had some VERY good tracks. At least 10 tracks rank among my favorite Aphex material.

Autechre: Untilted was inconsistant but there were some really good tracks on there. LCC, Pro Radii, and Sublimit prove that they've still got the power to make compelling music. Not to mention the live show was fucking AMAZING! Best show I've ever been to.

Boards Of Canada: The wait after Geogaddi kind of caused me to lose interest in them, and after giving it a few months, I have to admit that The Campfire Headphase is definitely their weakest release. I'm not drawn to it like the other relases and to be honest I usually can't make it through the whole album without putting something else on. The new EP was equally boring, aside from Left Side Drive, which is the best track they have done in a while.

Mu-Ziq: Nobody cares about Mu-Ziq, lol.

Squarepusher: New album supposedly due out in November, a return to the jazzier/jammy stuff according to Phillie-T. Very much looking forward to it.

word on some new pusher... ultravisitor was my favorite in years... saw him twice on his last rounds, happened to be where i moved from at the beginning of the tour and where i moved to at the end... got the sweet spot at both, beside his monitors where i could see him behind the obscuring setup on the machines AND while he was on bass... i'm a greedy bastard at warp shows...

not all us breakcore kids are haters... BoC can be just as morbid as Vsnares... but with BoC it's not as immediately obvious, so you can subvert the minds of the innocent without them even knowing

the amount of flaming on a BoC board is kinda weird though

it's not that i don't care about Mike P, just that he's been upstaged several times by his own label... i think Vsnares is a genius, even if he can get formulaic at times.

Get over yourself, I love BoC and I still think this forum's fucking stupid 75% of the time

Luke Vibert and Venetian Snares are the only ones releasing stuff at the moment, so I think they should be talked about more.

Luke Vibert is fucking quality, the man rarely lets me down considering how much material he has released. Seems like a genuinely normal and nice guy too, which unfortunately seems to be rare in this field.

And I have to admit I'm a Venetian Snares convert, don't like the older stuff much but Rossz and Cavalcade were quality. Looking forward to Hospitality in the fall.

Guest kni_knoo

oi... cavalcade isn't in my friendly neighborhood discerning record dealership yet... shows where my prorities are, i always warp order BoC so i don't have to be out of the loop... or so i can be the first to run my spectral analyzer over new material while looking at the cover under a black light... y'all did catch that with a spectral analyzer most BoC songs look kinda like fire burning right?

you think i'm kidding right?

Musically I'd rank Autechre as my all time favourite of the artists on watmm, however, I have no posts in their forum, cause it's just the music that I like. I have absoulutely nothing to say about it. I think they are cool and down-to-earth though.

Aphex I like a lot, but mostly single tracks from albums. I can't seem to listen to a whole album, they don't seem consistent. But he has some amazing tracks.

Squarepusher - I like his earlier records(Hard Normal Daddy, Music Is Rotted One Note), but the newer stuff(what I've heard) I don't.

Boards of Canada - I heard them after I was already familiar with the above mentioned, and I really like most of their stuff. But, again, I rarely listen to them. Mostly single tracks I like most, and still on occasion. They are fun to read on interviews - they mention so many influences, I kinda like to use that as a way to get more educated. And some of their fans are so funny, I just can't help but drop by to check out the latest posts by Tarsier or Chromakey Dreamcoat - or the newcomers. And the codes thing - it's just unbelievable, this hype. This explains the number of views though.

I'm still yet to check out Viberts music, what's he like?

Vibert isn't as "serious" as the other electronic music superstars. His music is very funky and kitsch, with influences ranging from Herbie Hancock funk, to 80s electro, to early 90s hip hop, to sick electronic music acid and jungle. Good music if you just want to chill or party.

what would you recommend as a starter?

Wagon Christ - Tally Ho! is great, I like most of the stuff he made under the alias Wagon Christ, top notch stuff, listen to Shadows from his latest album under that moniker (Sorry I made you lush)...brilliant!

but Luke is very consistent with his work so you could probably check out all his stuff..

check it out http://www.discogs.com/artist/Luke+Vibert

I will second Wagon Christ - Tally Ho! as the best album to start with. A classic album, fun to boogie to.
