Looks like Oasis may be reforming.  I will be buying as many tickets as possible to prevent true fans from seeing them.

got stuck at a get together over the weekend having to listen to a brain washed zombie. holy fuck these people are insane. I ask the dude how's it going, how's things, etc. and I get an earful all on some stupid crypto crap, how he knows all these intimate details on the US banking system thanks to watching shit online, and is already planning where he will go once he makes a ton of money... then it spirals into that we may not even have an election this year, never ever to trust the mainstream media, the moon landing was entirely faked. there was like no break in all this rambling and I'm just sitting there mildly stunned... later after I leave I start getting these wild texts from him to these propaganda x/rumble videos, then get these massive wall of text word salads about how he wants to warn me about some deep state cabol, and to make sure I don't watch any mainstream news anymore. ffs I don't even know what to say to any of this stupid shit. not even worth getting into it. the internet has head fucked so many humans.

You'd think Chris Gaines would've kept Garth Brooks from misbehaving.

Someone I respect a lot just told me how much they paid for a taylor swift ticket and now I feel weird.

My friend’s wife bought four Swift tickets and flipped two of them. She made enough money from them that they could afford to go on a vacation.

I just think it's disgusting not only that a performance act would ask for so much money for a ticket in the first place but that people would actually willingly spend it and be happy/proud of it. Sign of the times I guess. I could probably fly to Europe to see Autechre for less.

What is a "swifty"? How does this weird cult exist? Are there subliminal messages in the music or something?

NFL games are a joke.  There's something like 14 minutes of actual action in a 4 hour telecast.  Several players are injured every single game, sometimes severely.  I really don't understand the fervor from the typical American male over this stupid sport, maybe masculine projection & overcompensation, male bonding, who knows.

The betting scene is outright disgusting, companies preying on dummies who think that they can beat the professional oddsmakers with their dumbass hunches but hey that's capitalism + "sucker born every minute" I guess.

It really is a very inefficient game. Capitalist utopia. Stretch the length out x5 and put ads every 5 minutes plus the whole side show extravaganza of showbiz

I can't figure out if I like Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning more.  Been puzzling over this for years now.

lot's of good tunes on ride the lightning. MoP seems like the definitive metallica record though.  but RTL is no slouch. trapped under ice is a jam.. also, i played Fade to Black for someone in 1989 who, unknown to me, had tried to kill herself as a teenager and she was transfixed then cried for like 10 minutes. then she felt better about things after. she'd never listened to metallica before and was more into punk rock and funk type stuff.  metallica said in an interview that fade to black was their effort to write something slower (a ballad)  to be a single for radio play. which is hilarious because it's 7 minutes long and is about suicide or death or whatever.  the first 3 metallica albums are kind of all golden though. they were tops when they came out and we all obsessed over them as kids and nothing they've done since comes anywhere close to be as good as any one of those 3. and justice for all has its moments but is the beginning of the end. i thought the black album was a huge piece of shit and i hated it completely and didn't even buy it and only heard it through a friend who bought it and all their shitty MTV videos.  but me and my friends saw them for that tour and it was such a sell out tour.. as in they'd obviously cashed in their cred to $$$$.. which i guess is fine and they'd been through a lot so why not become rock stars or whatever...

seeing them for that tour.. at the miami arena full of kids and watching metallica do all the rock star bullshit like taunting the kids who couldn't drink beer by drinking beer on stage and holding it over the audience.. it was classic cock cheese rock star stuff.. and saying "this one is for all our new friends.. we're glad to have you in the audience"  and all these people behind us were chanting "LARS LARS LARS!!!" and we were on acid which was an interesting choice but made the night all pretty intensely hilarious.. my friend turned around and screamed at these kids to STFU and it was hysterical... then on the way out he was issuing a fucking declaration against consumerism and ranting at people. it was amazing. stomach hur from laughing. he ran up to some kid selling bootleg t-shirts and asked loudly if he had the glow in the dark metal up your ass t-shirt... he was full on reacting to the utter sell-out vibe of metallica's presentation/appearance/tone etc.  it was pretty heavy handed.. how they.. ugh..

jfc.. what am i talking about.. you're just thinking aloud about which of 2 albums you like best and here i am a fountain of bullshit and memory.

anyway.. fucking Bob Rock producing bon jovi then producing metallica.. ugh.. i blame him.  in "Some Kind of Monster" there's one scene where the band is jamming and it sounds fucking amazing because they're feeling it and that track of course gets dismissed even though it's like the only good sounding thing in that entire doc.  because bob rock.. fckn sucks.

I appreciate the Met reminiscing.  It's interesting to me the amount of vitriol the Black album gets from the Metallica fans who were into them in the earlier days.  Enter Sandman was one of the songs on Much Music that got me obsessed with music when I was 9.  I had no frame of reference for anything heavier than that, hadn't heard anything else from them, had no sense of their history or what it stemmed from.  All I knew was that guitar tone was one of the most bad ass things I'd ever heard, the vocal delivery, the guitar solo... the whole thing was just fascinating to my malleable kid brain.  When my cousin caught wind that I was really into that song, she dubbed everything from RTL to Black album onto cassette for me.  So I was listening to their whole discog minus Kill 'Em All and Garage Days when I first got into Metallica.  And I loved all of it, Black Album included.  Still do.  I think i like it for the same reasons the old school die hards hate it.  The songwriting and production are both extremely polished.  The riffs and choruses are anthemic and instantly memorable.  And there are a lot of cool instrumental arrangement things thast you wouldn't typically get in a heavy metal album (like the orchestra in NEM, or the sitar in WIMR, or many additional guitar overdubs that would be impossible to include (entirely) live.  They managed to make a classic album that almost anyone can appreciate regardless of whether they typically enjoy metal or not.  As a songwriter, I can't help but marvel at how well composed the whole thing is, riffs, melodies, and solos.  And as a producer, I'm in awe of how clean the mixes are.  Every detail was laboured over, and it shows.  The vocal performances throughout are about as solid as they could possibly be - I'd rate the Nothing Else Matters vocal performance as a top 5 for all time... and it was probably cobbled together from 100 takes.  That's Bob Rock.  He nailed the production and mix.  The raw angst of past albums may be missing, but the guitar tone is the heaviest they ever got it.  I seem to recall they went with Bob because they were impressed with the guitar tone on Motley Crew's last album, Dr. Feelgood - they liked the cock rock cheese already.  Anyway, I think they'd exhausted the 6+ minute ultra heavy ultra complex formula they'd been honing for almost a decade, and they needed to go somewhere else artistically.  Black Album was it, and it ended up being the biggest metal album of all time.  Nothing to scoff at. Sandman and Nothing Else Matters both have over a billion plays on Spotify, which is just staggering.  But it's really interesting how polarizing it is for so many.  Even the Pantera guys were saying how the album felt like some offensive betrayal - and those guys share that same mastery of songcraft and pop sensibility, despite how heavy the delivery of it is.  It surprised me to hear that same reaction from them.  But it just goes to show how personally imprinted on people a band like Metallica is.  I don't include Black album in the album vs. album contest, because it's a whole other category from the first four albums.  The things I love about the first four albums are missing, but the songwriting and production is on another level - definitely striving for the universal appreciation rather than metal allegiance.  We have Slayer for that.

St. Anger is a true abomination though.  I can't think of a more extreme example of diminished standards from any musical artist.  It's pretty much the antithesis of Black album.  Garbage songs, garbage production, garbage performances.  SKOM does in part explain why it exists - need to watch that again.
