this video posted above is a good look at some of the technical shortcomings and cut corners. cameras instead of Lidar is a big deal. there's other videos that are reasonable about trashing them and not just hit pieces on musk/tesla.

i hate that all the control is in the screen. i've driven a bunch of teslas and they drive well enough and are fast and all that but every damn control is in the screen. it's so unergonomic. can't easily reach for a button or a knob to change something. you have to take your eyes off the road to do everything.

Reminds me of this video:

I saw a baby blue cyber truck on the road the other day.  It was the most awkward looking vehicle I've seen in the flesh.  Looked like one of my nephews toys.  AKA this:

There was a more standard coloured one at the supermarket lot, and it looked like an old man was scolding the driver.  Warmed my heart.

The only issue I have with TSLA is that it's a pay-to-win model (they charged for software upgrades that the hardware was capable of but it was paywalled). It's the iPhone of cars

EDIT: and they're fugly

To be fair, Tesla was / is miles ahead of any other vehicle manufacturer in terms of in-car technology (I'm not including self-driving here; Elon's insistence on using only cameras has doomed them in the long run).

One of the only good things they've done IMO is forcing other manufacturers to up their game in terms of vehicle software / apps, especially for EVs.

They'd have to be electric chainsaws though. That looks like a two-cycle gasser.

Shame that the world's leading EV company is being led by this sorry excuse of a human being. No doubt another setback on our 2050 global net zero carbon emission goals.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

"Sawyer Merritt" is such a dumbfuck name and the profile picture backs it up in spades.  Some wannabe nerdtech-bro trying to look all masculine with a SuperCuts hairdo and weak-ass scruff-of-a-beard.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Wednesday, a coalition of conservation and community organizations shared new information with the Shelby County Health Department that clearly shows xAI—a company founded by Elon Musk to run X’s chatbot ‘Grok’—has nearly doubled the number of on-site gas turbines at its South Memphis datacenter and is violating the Clean Air Act.

“xAI has essentially built a power plant in South Memphis with no oversight, no permitting, and no regard for families living in nearby communities. These dozens of gas turbines are doing significant harm to the air Memphians breathe every day. We expect local health leaders to promptly act in order to hold xAI accountable for its clear violations of the Clean Air Act,” Southern Environmental Law Center Senior Attorney Amanda Garcia said.

Elon Musk said Tuesday that he will take a major step back from his work as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency.

"I think I'll continue to spend a day or two per week on government matters for as long as the President would like me to do so and as long as it would be useful"

Tesla reported that Q1 EPS sank 40% to 27 cents per share while revenue fell 9% to $19.335 billion. Analysts expected earnings of 41 cents a share and sales totaling $21.27 billion, according to FactSet. However, the sharps consensus pegged quarterly revenue at $19.76 billion.

Tesla Q1 consensus earnings projections came down more than 40% since the end of 2024. The Q1 EPS target was $3.31 just before Tesla's Q4 earnings release. Prior to the earnings release, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas warned early Tuesday to "hang on for some weak numbers."
