ngl it's funny that the dem strategy has become "our guy sucks." trump has been saying absolutely unhinged, deranged, false, bullshit for his entire 8 year political life and he's fine, no one in his party is disavowing him or asking him to step down, even the guy who said he's "hitler" is now his vp pick lmao. but as soon as the first second of the debate passes there is a major dem narrative that biden can't win and there's this hyper-fixation on his debate performance or how he said "we defeated medicaid" or whatever the fuck. very small peanuts compared to trump who has like the most insane problems any candidate has every faced and the whole time the gop is like "our guy rules."

The same was true for when Hilary Clinton ran against Trump. republicans are way better at this bc they just follow the most powerful guy and treat him like he's perfect. "sleepy joe biden" is an epithet that's several years old, biden's current performance is same old biden imo. he's always been stuttering, spacing out, looking old and shit. we've been exposed to countless memes of biden wandering around like a confused elder for years now. and he won against trump (the same guy he's running against atm!) so why are dems pretending all this is now a game changer? just put everything you've got behind the candidate imo, do not make trump appear even stronger by literally saying your guy cannot win against him lmao. it's crazy. they don't even have some secret weapon candidate to unleash, they're just like "idk, kamala or whatever." if they want to win for whatever reason at all this is the dumbest strategy i've ever seen:

i don’t think dems are freaking out because they are suddenly debating if they should vote for biden or not. they are freaking out because it looks like biden can’t win the election. that is due to a number of reasons including undecided votes and overall voter apathy. if people aren’t motivated to vote, they may not show up and that could result in a loss. A lot of people think that a younger candidate would increase turnout for the democratic party

Undecided votes and apathy are long-existing issues but what I’m referring to is the rather popular narrative that kicked off after the debate that Biden should step down. This is entirely spurred on his debate performance and was explicitly a reaction to it. It’s all over the mainstream liberal press. You can even see it ITT after the debate. 
 

As for switching candidates to a more electable person, yeah man I think they should’ve have thought of that sooner not 4 months before election lol

About a year ago, the dems had to make a decision about Biden running again, taking into account things like how it would look for him to step down after one term, his age, his rate of deterioration, what other challengers there were. Evidently they decided "he's old but he beat trump last time so he's the best person to run again" and evidently they thought they could stage manage what was happening to minimise PR damage from him obviously being a bit old and doddery. And they made a call and since then events have gone against them. Just how it goes. If they had decided not to run with Biden a year ago, we might be looking at a different problem now, maybe a different candidate who made some missteps and was now struggling. Who knows.

Trump was looking quite 'weak' about a year ago, multiple pending court cases, ranting away to himself on truthsocial etc. But since the first debate, the supreme court ruling and now the shooting attempt, he's looking a lot stronger.

In 2016 he was just the weird rich celeb bullshitting his way to the top, and everyone was like 'wtf is this actually happening'. But now in 2024 people know what they're voting for, and he's got a genuine 'beating the struggle' narrative behind him, and on an objective 'can he actually do the job?' basis, as crappy as he is, he might actually have the edge over Biden.

So he's probably going to win, which doesn't necessarily mean disaster. Mostly his administration style is chaos and bluster. He just needs to be kept in check and when he tries to anoint a successor for 2028 like JD Vance it will probably go wrong because he constantly throws colleagues under the bus etc.

Trump is going to keep trying until he gets his second term so you might as well get it over with

The problem was there was never a good alternative for Biden. And there still isn’t. Without a good alternative, Biden isn’t going anywhere.

you know that's not what's going on....the vast majority of people weren't paying enough attention to how bad Biden has declined but it became very stark and obvious to anyone and everyone at the debate. Dems want to win, they just realize that looks much, much harder with Biden in his current state (and future state...he only gets older every single day).

again, both do that to some extent but that's not really what they've done for much of Trump's time in the party. many were trying to keep him out before 2016's win and the fucking Koch dude/bros (forget when the one died lol who cares) were trying to keep Trump out of 2024, many Rs have 'left the mainstream party' and/or political office because of Trump. this isn't a 'wow worship the new king' thing, it's never been that way that i'm aware of until maybe these past few months?

much less chance of this being Trump's 2nd term if he wins...Project 2025 stuff seems certain to be coordinating in the background for this and even if Trump downplays it's direct involvement, it/the people involved will be working to some extent or another to roll in some ugly shit. i've seen it happening here in Louisiana with our new piece of shit governor Landry, they walked him in and started enacting the most backward shit on basically day one.
