How do you solve the problem that once you successfully finish cleaning your gear from dust, the pieces of gear you started the cleaning from are already dusty again?

I know, I know, CPU fabrication cleanroom solutions probably exist for the average prosumer...

have similar demons but i try to think around them since time is only so available. have rewired the studio many times over the years.. "rearrangement servant" for ergonimics of whatever i wanted to be close to at the time. so it goes.

Scrap wood live rig for my show tonight. I somehow managed to make this mixer sound pretty decent. I don’t think the perfect small live mixer actually exists, but this is certainly so cheap (and 10 years old) that it’s the best solution.

It has a touch sensitive interface. It works best if you lick your finger first. 

This is a top of the line Commercial Electric power strip with 15ft heavy gauge cord. Please give respect where respect is due.

Is it one of those where - depending on whether you are in east or west Japan - the LFO is set at 50-60Hz?

Still need a few cheap 6' snakes to hook up the 1u rack case that has most of the synths in it and the interface, but progress is being made.  Hopefully some day I'll upgrade to a Roland M-480 or a Mackie LM3204 and swap in the M160 for the Rolls RM203 I'm using as a keyboard mixer, but I just cant' afford it right now and 16 mixer channels is almost enough to hok all the rack gear up (I've got 17 channels of stuff if I limit it to main outputs only). I've got to say, nobody seems to like the Roland M160 but for what they seem to sell for (not counting the people on Reverb asking more than twice what this one cost on eBay, of course) I don't think you could do much better.  I think I was wrong about the effects sends being stereo but that seemed too good to be true anyway.  Inputs distort in the good way when you push them, it seems pretty clean when you don't push it too hard, it's only 4u and it has 4 sends with dedicated returns.  You could get two or three of them for the cost of one M480, too.

Just a few dozen more cables and I'll be able to make the ultimate late 90s commercial jingle or porn soundtrack.

EDIT: also need a second power conditioner, but as long as you ignore the way power conditioners ae marketed for audio you can get a really nice Ametek new-old-stock for under $100 easily, there are tons of them and they're comparable or better than stuff that's in the high hundreds when it's being sold as audio equipment.

That AD02 probably needs to go somewhere else, too, since all the i/o is on the front panel.

EDIT 2: already reorganized it pretty aggressively.  8 more patch cables and I should be set on the audio side, then I get all the MIDI hooked back up and start using it all again.

Also about 40% of the stuff in that rack was free, which is part of how I can justify keeping it all. The actual rack was free, too.

This has been my setup for the past ~1 year. Recently looking into power conditioners as I'm pretty sure it would reduce my noise floor a bit.  I've been very content exploring and recording lately.  No GAS to speak of (for now)

Yeah, with my tiny room it's either make the modular the "center" of the studio and have the monitors on different walls @ 90° angles to each other, or make the laptop the "center" and put both monitors at a good angle for using that. I figure mixing in the DAW is more important than patching and noodling in that regard.

This is a home made midi device that runs with the powerful but difficult tracker called defMON. 

I use to jam with my gf Peace.. Just for fun! We like doing music with Trackers. 

Im seriously looking up to you guys here on WATMM. Having all that studio equipment takes lot of time consumption and space but it looks so cool really!!

That's a nice setup. I am curious how you use the Kastle. Mine is mostly used for filling space in my shame drawer.

Lol, yeah it doesn't get used a ton.  I do like to use it as an input into rings for nice textured strings/drones. You can get rhythmic things going on by patching the kastle and using a stereo input y adapter to patch it with an adsr or clock from the system.   

I also will use it as an osc source for percussion sounds from time to time.  Now that I'm thinking about it,  sampling it into the the Arbhar might be interesting....

I don't have a Kastle but I bet it would be cool as the carrier signal for a vocoder.

I am sure I tried both feeding some clock signal into the Kastle and also some vocoder experiments. I must have been using it wrong because the results definitely did not impress me back then. I used it mostly as a noise source that I could mess around with using Live's autofilter and its own knobs.

Maybe I will give it a shot again one day.
