well i agree it aint just DSP jiggery pokery but apohex said himself that he just got 30 odd tracks at random from his DATs and slapped em on an album to prevent them being released elsewhere.

LOL you really think that's true? Drukqs was not a "compilation", it was an album which evolved throughout the years until 2001. He worked on it as an album. This is just the typical mythical aspect and rumor-spread that makes him famous. Richard is an artist, he's much more controlled and serious about his work that you might think. It's not a sideline job for fun here and there, oh let's throw random tracks together for fun and I'm sure my record company will publish it with big promotion etc... cmon

I mean how many variation on your quote have we seen in the years? Like the airport stolen MP3, or the stolen MP3 at (insert other place), to prevent people who stole him some tracks to get money, etc...

Someday Snopes will have an AFX section eh!

No doubt the tunes are composed but like i said so are loads of great electronic albums

not too sure who said it was "quite good" as joyrex said cos its certainly much better than that.

You're getting your rumours mixed up - 26 Mixes For Cash was "thrown together" (some from Mp3s) so an alternate label couldn't profit off the compilation.

My "quite good" comment is an old joke others here are familiar with. I actually like Drukqs quite a bit.

Although I could be entirerly wrong, I find it hard to believe that Drukqs is just random tracks. I also dont think it could have been shortened. I think it is Richard's most complete album, and is my favorite of his.

Any nominations for your least favorite song on drukqs? (aside from the answering machine or one of the other less than minute tracks.) I go with Taking Control. It is the one i listen to least out of all of them.

what about favourite!? people are saying meltphace, but i love omgyjya switch7, the beats are awesome in that tune, really powerful and hard hitting, i guess i play the track and avril 14th the most off drukqs, 2nd probably 54 cymru beats..

Taking Control is ace, HARSH and metallic like only he can do, yet there's a bubbly beat throughout the piece.

How can you not like the start with the chimes. Or the Ba ba ba ba baba ba ba bababa to the beat of the words "I'm taking control of the drum machine.

Oh and speaking of how Richard incorporate voices all the time as percusion, there's a nice "chicka chicka chicka" sound in the back throught parts of it!

I know this is the AFX board but I gotta say that Confield is better than Drukqs, imo. And Surfing On Sine Waves is better than Drukqs, imo.

Confield is a desert island record for me. And I dont understand why people call it cold. I also dont understand why more people dont worship it. Cfern and Pen expers leave me speechless everytime, and are both very colorful. But Surfing on Sine Waves for me, while awesome in its own right, is no Drukqs. Some of that album will not stand the test of time. Polygon Window will, but not all the tracks will. Drukqs will last longer I think. And yea, more unreleased piano stuff.

actually surfing on sinewaves has and does and will continue to stand the test of time

You think so? Maybe. This might be heresy, but I think UT1-Dot and one other track, I cant remember which, sound a little dated. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE this album, but some of the reverb is showing its age.

suppose thats the beauty of aphex isnt it, you never know whether he is lying or telling the truth. sort of distract from the point. I was trying to say that there is more to life than aphex twin but in an aphex forum thats a bit silly.

It took all of 2 posts before everyone immediately reverted back to fanatacism instead of maybe considering the bigger world of music that exists and how drukqs compares to other artists and their albums.

Is it not possible to have an appreciation of the wider world of music yet still think that Drukqs is the pinnacle? Seriously, I pity the fool who can't discern the difference between it and other supposed masterworks.

For me, the end of 54 Cymru Beats is the best part of the album. Unbelievable.

That's bollocks.

Definitely. For me this is RDJ's most personal work yet and you can tell he put a great effort into it.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Seriously, anyone believing that "I LOST MAE MP3 WITH 99999999999 SONGS ON A PLANE" fails. Also you fail if you believe that Drukqs is just random MP3 "thrown randomly because im afraid of the guy that has the lost ipod because he can release it on the internets". Aphex worked an insanely amount of time, and put an insanely amount of effort on every single track. IMO I don't believe he has lots of "unreleased" stuff that sounds like that, due to the amount of time a track like those would take to make.

On the "whats your fav song", just can't deciede. They all are awesome.
