Does anyone remember the interviews around the time of Empty The Bones Of You, Clark said his newer material was unrecognisable and would be a lot harsher and devoid of melody. I think these are those tracks, or at least the culmination of that kind of idea.

Ive only heard Turning Dragon once, and I didnt get that feeling of satisfaction like from his other releases, ut seemed more like a live set than an album but not since Music Is Rotted or maybe Gantz Graf have I been so surprised and shocked by a Warp artists new output. Judging from my current attitudes to those releases this is probably a good thing. Volcan Veins sounds unlike anything else. Im looking forward to digesting it.

I just listened to the samples at Bleep - the waveforms scare me as they are all solid blocks (might be that overcompression stuff mentioned before). Sadly, on initial random samples, every track sounds pretty much the same, and seems forgettable, like Body Riddle did. I want him to get back to ETBOY - a mixture of harshness and melody.

Empty the bones of you is really my favourite as well... Clarence park seems a bit old to me now, appart from the piano parts... But everything was great in empty the bones of you, from the cover, to the tracks names...

Body Riddle was good as well, but I don't listen to it that much...

And for Turning Dragon, I don't really know why you're all bashing it ( well, not every single of you) it's just a compilation of random more dancefloor friendly tracks he did these last years. It has a great album cover, the clark sound ( even if it's overcompressed) and there's some great tracks there. Violenl, For Wolves crew, truncation horn, Penultimate Persian....

I'm just really happy to have this, I should get it on vinil tomorow, I'll see if the compression and stuff is the same...

But still, it's really good to have new tracks from him, I think. Enought to wait for the next album...

I need to go check my mail to see if this has come yet.

Empty the Bones of You might have been my favorite if it didn't have Gob Coitus and the Sun Too Slow. Actually, in general I think the last four tracks are weaker than the rest of the album which is very very good.

I think Body Riddle is his best because I think it flows best and is the most cohesive and defined. Even though I think that many of the tracks on ETBOY are stronger than those on Body Riddle.

I really like a few tracks on Clarence Park, but all in all, it doesn't feel like an album and it is more of a young Clark trying to create what is now a very unique style. But Diesel Raven and Proper Lofi are the buisness.

Don't get me wrong - I was grinning ear to ear when I heard the first track (which I listened all the way through), but as I sampled more and more of the tracks randomly, they all sounded the same - perhaps a full listen through will yield a different opinion.

100% agree on ETBOY's last 4 tracks - I thought it should have ended with 'Farewell Track'...

Not picked this up yet but re: the last four tracks on Empty The Bones Of You, side d is such a good side and contains Gravel (Obliterated) on so wtf?

usually i dont mind music with absolutely zero dynamic range if it sounds pleasurable, this just sounds shittily compressed.

also since when did Clark start ripping off jackson and his computer band and mr oizo? i liked him better when he was biting off clasisc aphex twin

Jackson and his Computer Band rips off Clark sir.

ok so i just gave a new listen to the album on bleep and i really really like:

- for wolves crew from 5'00". best thing on the album to me.

- beg from 2'00". i don't know why but it reminds me of bjork's isobel.

- penultimate persian. best track.

great album. i'm really not into the boom booms but i like the whole trip.

there may have been a time that i would have been really into this release, but i have to say, i find it really uninspiring and generic sounding to me now. i made it through about 4 of the tracks before being tired of it. i'll fight through the rest in the hopes of it striking me, but i find this to be a far cry from the more ingenious moments of ETBOY.

love,

c

*guilt ensues*

That is the one exception. The rest are cack. Thanks for reminding me what a great song that is to piss off passers by in a car!

can someone explain to me the "compression" issue with Clark's music. I am quite the amateur knob twiddler and don't get what you are referring to.

Is there something you can hear in a certain song you can reference for some context/example.

thanks for your help schooling the old guy

Fuck me man. Listening to the CD for the first time right now, it's uber bish-bash-bosh. I love it !!

hayhook: One thing you have to remember is that there's the confusing issue that compression refers to either altering the dynamic range of the track (as the folks are referring to in this case) or it can mean data compression (i.e. reducing the size of the data either by lossy or lossless methods). Audio dynamic compression, which is used in a lot of clark's stuff (although it doesn't bother me), can be explained graphically quite nicely here: http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Fuck yeah! Some real good tracks on here. It's real aggressive.

Not the best thing he has ever done, but I don't think it was meant to be. It's a lot of fun, and there are some really nice moods and sounds.

Very different but still very Clark.
