Rook: You miss the point my friend, anyway before I start what is it with people on these boards and the word retard? If you don't agree with someone your automatically called a retard, must be yank thing anyway...

I was talking in reference to critics perception on Autechre, compare the reviews for most Autechre albums to Afx and you will see my point. They are not considered classic's at all, Autechre records always divide opinion, SAW 1 AND 2 are seen as 'classics' in terms of what critics think, the most critically successful Autechre record is perhaps Tri if u look into the reviews.

It was not my view, I consider all Autechre albums classics as they are favorite musical act. Retard.

HMV put LP5 on their top 20 must own albums list, surely that implies some classic status?

Have you got a link for that? I think I remember hearing summat about it but I thought it was one of those album of the month things rather then 'best ever albums'. No matter what argument you put forward Aphex is far more critically successful, of cause this does not make him better, I do prefer Autechre as I said but I was just trying to balance out my argument.

I look for emotion in music, and a lot of Richard's tracks have that emotive feel to them in some form or another. So, as much as I really like Ae, I would still choose AFX over Ae.

Why does this topic exist? There is no way to convince someone who thinks Aphex Twin is better than Autechre is better, it's their opinion, that's why. All of the reasons the OP put up, I still think afx is better. Nothing you say could sway my opinion, and I doubt anything I could say would sway yours.

It doesn't matter what someone views as 'classic' or 'groundbreaking', it's just that particular person's taste. I like Ae as much as the next guy, but I like afx more. Why even make this thread? Are you trying to convert afx-lovers to the wonderful world of ae? This thread is pointless, it's a battle no one will win.

ae, afx, boc... they're all ingenious!

That's right! Check this out!

I've always found it odd that people consistently praise Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and completely ignore Incunabula. Incunabula is one of my favorite Autechre releases!

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

the aphex twins are like ae but 1000x crappier live

AE are untouchable live, god damn.

Autechre is two person, AFX is one person therefor you can't really compare the two even if AFX alone made better music than AE.

It could be argued that two people is superior as it takes their combined effort, which is more difficult than one persons sole focus. To be that consistent and on the same level as each other is quite impressive.

Not that I would argue this of course.

I don't think Ae and Aphex are trying to do the same thing, really. Ae is more concerned with the abstract, and they want you to think of their music as wildstyle graffiti. Aphex's music is usually a twisted, wholly unique take on certain genres, whether it's ambient, techno, drum n bass, or something he just made up, but totally works.

maybe i'm being too sensitive but one of the things watmm has going for it is its tolerance

and so i'm kinda disappointed that this thread popped up when we usually just accept each other's preference

or maybe i just don't wanna admit that i agree with some of the points raised in ae's favor

i dunno i just prefer an implicit unity in the watmm six, and take them on their own merits without contrasting

You'd deserve an award.

Objectivity will never be part of music. Tastes guys, tastes...

Trying to show the entire world with big theories Ae better than Afx or Afx better than Ae, or µ-Ziq better than Squarep.. No, stop, it's a time loss.

I feel like a parent separating two children arguing.

You're touched by Ae ultra elaborated music, I'm touched by SAW simplicity, but I respect Ae fans (implied "advanced electronic music"), as you're supposed to respect SAW, SOSW or Analord lovers.

And reading things such "this doesn't sounds new so it's shit" really disappoints me.

Every music for everybody, that's the way.
