Why AE is better than AFX

Saying one is better than the other is stupid because 'better' has no real meaning and its entirely subjective.

its less subjective to say something like Ae is more skilled, more technical, more composition-driven. I could go on and list a hundred reasons why I think Ae is better but the #1 for me is the quality control. There are but a handful of Ae tracks that are miss for me, but it seems like about half of the Tracks AFX releases are kinda garbage IMO

Seriously. I've come to the conclusion that you had to be there with Aphex. I got into his stuff way after Drukqs, so I wasn't ever blown away by how revolutionary his stuff is, simply because it wasn't to me. Don't get me wrong he has some fucking screamers but that doesn't negate the fact that he has loads of shit too. [/subjectivity]

yea, i didn't hear a single afx song until 2006....and yet i am still blown away even though i didn't grow up with it

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I wasn't there, but Aphex was my first run into experimental electronic music, so I was comparing it to nothing else really, besides other Warp acts and internet musicians. I still think his catalog is amazing and groundbreaking. Listening back on some of it now is sadly not as impressive or mind opening as it once was, but every time a new Aphex hits, the reason why I love him all comes coming back. I think I just have over done all of his stuff. Which is why he needs to release MOAR

Judging Richard's music on the basis of tracks and comparing them (varying from differing albums), is stupid because you are taking emotions and scoring them, ordering them. You simply can't judge an artist while re-arranging their work. "I like this track more then this track, because this track is fast and cool! I didn't say they were any more intelligent than Afx just that they are more skilled IMO. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I will concede partially though to say that there are not very many AFX tracks that are 'bad' in the sense that it's hard to listen to them, just that I don't find as many of them to have the replay value of much of the other music I listen to. Basically I find that RDJ's tracks get rather stale after a few listens.

Again there are exceptions here, Drukqs is mostly a brilliant album. I still find there are more miss tracks on RDJ albums compared to Autechre. There is no Ae album with more than 1-2 tracks that I don't genuinely love. RDJ has a bunch of awesome tracks that easily parallel the quality of Autechre but the ratio is upset with all the sub-standard tracks (Waxen Pith, Wax the tip, Icct Hedral, Funny Little Man, Pretty much all pre-Aphex Twin works and the whole Classics album to name just a few examples)

Hey man its just personal opinion at this point but I can't really listen to any of the stuff I listed all the way through especially Pre Aphex Twin RDJ

yeah most of drukqs I really enjoy, I don't consider most of the piano parts as filler, the only real filler there is the one where they sing happy birthday and also that really short track Assois or something. Drukqs has a really cool mixture of musical styles. I just hate old AFX and some of the earlier Aphex stuff.
