I for one think it's quite beautiful, and really awesome that Ae decided to stretch out such a lovely idea.

Cool dude, glad at least ONE person likes it. :ok:

I think it will make nice background/falling asleep music at the very least, which I can appreciate since I didn't get my hopes up.

about thirty minutes in, and it is quite soothing. so i like it, so i guess you can say TWO people like it... :ok:

I think the big reason I'm irritated is I bought the mini-subscription in advance so before I even had a chance to preview any of the tracks I had paid for mostly loops, slightly different arrangements of tracks and stuff.

That being said its not really that bad, I was just very angry with subrange 6-36.

I just read on warp that Autechre is releasing a new LP this year!!!! the album is titled 'tunnel' and it is a 2 hour long recording of a wind tunnel with no effects or anything.

HA! what's sad is that i'd probably buy it.

"background music" -- like those you hear in elevators? The idea of background music is Ae's worst nightmare.

I think a new lp will come soon enough and i wouldn't be surprised to see the live set placed on .ws

Elevator music? More like music for airports...

And I wouldn't expect the liveset or a new album anytime soon unless you want to be disappointed again.

it was my way of putting a close to my time here. had enough of posting anything. nothing interesting to raise really.

it seems as though people don't want people to discuss or debate about anything -- "oh shut up, stop complaining", etc. No

point really.

I disagree. Ambient music in general is supposed to work just as well whether in the background or foreground. It's supposed to have the ability to subconsciously frame an environment. And, with "Perlence subrange 6-36", I think Autechre have succeeded in doing that. It's repetitive enough that it becomes routine, but no less gorgeous. And of course, if you pay closer attention, you notice the little differences with each go around, like the phase of that static hit, or the slowly developing synth sound.

I have to say, I don't quite get all this animosity toward Ae's refusal to officially release a live set. In interviews, they've made it quite clear that they'd prefer to keep their live sets live - something in the moment, and tied to the place of performance. For their studio releases, there are obviously some different goals. Perhaps "Perlence subrange 6-36" would have been a difficult piece to stand through at a venue, but that's also part of what makes it so gorgeous for intimate home listening.

Youve opened a can of worms again. If they don't release it, they don't release it. The end. Yet, their reasons for not releasing it -- as quoted in an interview -- is that they feel its "milking it". Interestingly, we have two albums worth of versions of Quaristice tracks. Not that im complaining about this at all. But can you see the contradiction? Also the live set is not context or situation specific at all since it kept to a similar structure at each gig. Then one could argue that its not supposed played with a particular sound design, etc. It gets boring now as this has already been discussed and debated.

posted this in my subrange thread but thought i'd put it here

i definately have to say on second review, i thoroughly enjoy subrange 6-36

it is genius, its fantastic! See I went out and smoked 2 good bowls, and when I came in I decided to see if subrange was good enough to calm my anger at its failure to be a massive perlence jam.

Its absolutely incredible if you listen to it fully knowing it is a drawn out ambient track.

I wish i had not spoken so soon about its failure. From now on I will make no assumptions about autechre's music before I listen to it.

I pray forgiveness to the Perlence god

near boccian proportions

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

People here seem to smoke and then listen back to stuff and enjoy it. That's fair enough, but I'm deeply affected by lots of minimal ambient music completely sober, and this new Perlence doesn't do much for me at all. It sounds lazy and "loopy". Maybe after getting really stoned it'd make more "sense", but most stuff sounds amazing stoned anyway (and I don't particularly want to smoke to enjoy music anymore!) :)

I'm not sure if anybody else put this out people would bat an eyelid. I've heard much better ambient from unsigned artists online, and from old Ae albums like Garbage.

Edited by Lianne

i'm sure i will thoroughly enjoy all of this EP sober now, i just needed to 'get' it and being high makes 'getting' it easier

I got that too, looks like I'll have to wait until next week to hear this. Oh well, not missing a whole hell of a lot.

It's kinda like writing fifty different poems, that are all very very similar. I tell you, it's almost like releasing every version of a track we'd do. Instead of doing eight versions of a track..

AR - Recycled tracks?

SB - No, a lot of them are just sort of remixes of the same track. Same basic premises with a few things changing. Might be based on the time between pressing stop and start, or something. Quite often its user input-based, but the users don't know that they're creating input, you know. I think these are the most interesting systems, really, cause they think its random, but you know it isn't.

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

whilst none of it is terrible..

True, generally speaking this series of releases is still better than anything else out there I'm hearing right now, but it's just not got the same magic that Ae records normally have, Anvil Vapre, Garbage, Untilted, etc etc

maybe they should have called the release quaristice sub-par

or maybe Quaristice Quadprice
