i've overplayed aphex twin

Recommended Posts

i really hope more aphex twin would come out; i've listened to his stuff so much especially the "twin" alias that i'm just bored of it.

i remember back in the day i could listen to him and just him... put on donkey rhubarb, come to daddy ep, peels sessions.

i think it's because his music is so good i'll sit down and listen to it until it's overplayed and not interesting any more. analord is still interesting to me but as far as aphex twin and such like drukqs, completely boring..

I'm quite sure I'll never grow tired of Drukqs. As far as I'm concerned it's the apogee of human civilization. Same goes double for Analord 02.

Even if I get a bit tired of listening to Aphex myself (though it's usually only for a lil while, then I hop right back in). ONe thing is for sure, I will never grow tired of playing Aphex for other people, especially those that have never heard his music before. Putting on Saw II in a room full of intoxicated people, or playing windowlicker in a bar, never grows old :)

indeed, it's never a bad idea playing aphex twin for people...

i remember when i first heard the rdj album i coudln't comprehend it. then a little bit later i wanted to hear more. but eay, first time i heard that drill i was like oooooooook? um... yeah? it was interesting that's for sure, but i felt like how many parents feel when they hear their kid listening to his records except i wanted to hear more of the tusff, which to me was initially , noise./

It is frustrating to me though, as far as his recent material goes. I did enjoy some analord tracks and a bit of the tuss, but overall analord (despite its length) left me wanting more, and tuss still hasn't been sufficient. I'm digging some of his recent live sets, but it's hard to gauge anything he will release next. He could spin out a hardcore set and release 60 minutes of a single modular synth patch that slowly changes tone, but not pitch over time, just to be funny.

He hasn't done anything ambient (aside from the prepared piano tracks on druqks) for a some time and it'd be nice for him to release something ambient like saw I or II again.

However, I will say personally that a new album in the vein of surfing on sine waves would be most delightful. Even though I appreciate some of his later efforts a lot more and would regard other stuff as more complex and showing off his talent. Still there's something about surfing on sine waves, if not the overall mood of the album, that just has always sat perfect with me. SAme with saw II but for some reason I think he may be "done" with releasing ambient music (hope i'm wrong)

However, as has been discussed in numerous threads on here. Perhaps Richard is burnt out on his own music and just doesn't care about being on the cutting edge of modern electronic music anymore, but simply enjoying the things he has more fun doing. I'm sure analord was a blast to make for him. I think it would've been a tad cooler if he had released some video of him making it, one for the expierence of what exactly he was doing 'live' if anything, and two to see what exact instruments he was using (and not to mention has in his studio. For all the fuss over doing an all analog album, I', still quite surprised he didn't elaborate more on all the gear he used, especially for us analog fans. I know he's mentioned tibits here and there, and yeah , duh you can pick out an 808 or whatever, and i'm sure he wanted to leave it up to speculation, but I'm just saying a vid would've been cool as well.

also, I meant to add that perhaps richards latest gigging, and not to mention return to U.S. gigging, is an indication of a direction change from tuss and analord, and perhaps a release of some new modern aphex style music. Yeah it be great to get a surfing on sine waves part II as I mentioned, but something up to par with windowlicker, or really anything off of his major albums, would be great.

Sign me the fuck up.

Seriously I cannot explain to you the greif I feel when I put on Fingerbib and feel nothing, it's as if I've become numb to it's majestic beauty, I sit, limp, staring at the speakers with tears in my eyes. If only I could erase my memory of this song and re-discover it, I would be happy again but for now I am in constant agony.

I'M SORRY FOR BEING ME I CAN'T HELP THE WAY I AM

Guest HokusPoker

Same here with Fingerbib. I keep saying "This is one of my favourite tracks" just because I know that I have to love Fingerbib, but I don't really feel it anymore.

It used to give me goosebumps, so now I'm not putting it on anymore till I feel that its time has come again.

But there's still some Aphex Twin to be discovered.

Hokus is waiting for On and Donkey Rhubarb to arrive.
