actually equation, a friend played it for me because I was really into throbbing gristle at the time (??)

and shortly thereafter same friend gave me his copy of SAW1 (which he hated)

magical

I don't chill with that guy anymore.

going through the dance section in FYE and bought ICBYD because i liked the artwork. i was pretty young although the album had been out for quite a while, anyway it was one of a few cd's i had at the time. so it was basically the only thing i listened to for a few months. didn't like it at first, loved it later, then bought CTD...

the dice man/polygon window track on AI 1 and an article in Future Music at the time.

Immediately ordered selected ambient works mail-order from vinylmania in NYC(R.I.P)

and had it shipped to Montana. I was hooked!

tracked down the polygon window lp and ep and was officially obsessed...

this was 92? early 93? I was 19 I think.

hell of a parting gift though. he can't be too bad. his lack of appreciation for aphex has likely resulted in you buying many afx albums.

true but if he had truly understood it he probably wouldn't have given it to me

because he was a fucktard

EDIT: and I do not use that word lightly

I was hanging out with Karl Stockhausen and he asked if I'd like to hear some post-African rhythm nonsense. I told him later I thought it was quite good. He poured my ayinger over my head, left and returned with two fresh ones, one of which he poured on himself.

AT THE HEART OF IT ALL !!!!!!

Ditto, during angsty/stoner teenage years ... then windowlicker video, bought RDJ album and Come to Daddy within a week.

Oddly enough, I was listening to mu-ziq first.

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

It happenned 5 years ago : i asked my cousin for some enjoyable tracks. First, he sent me Father from drukqs, adn then ventolin video version. ahahah

But the fisrt album i listened to was 26 mixes for cash, that i spelled "26 Mixes for Cash C" in these days just because there was some mistake in the mp3 tags.

Then i discovered Drukqs, which i fell in love with.

I'm always interested in the folks who get a taste, don't like it, and then claim to love it later.

It also happens to people who are already into aphex. I remember the first time i listened to boxing day, i was like... you know... "quite good". Aphex's like that, the more you listen to it, the more you enjoy it : it took me 2 years of picky listening to enjoy every single of the 42 tracks from the analord series. Only W32.Mydoom.AU@mm and Backdoor.Ranky.S are still making resistance to me.

I bet that RDJ is chintzy irl. He seems like someone who'll pickup his corduroys at charity shops, buy rotten fruit on special at Aldi's, and then buy a lead crystal synthesizer with ruby knobs and components of platinum all in the same day.

What's wrong with that? Most of my wardrobe comes from charity shops and I buy my fruit and veg on Friday's which is market day in the village.

I got into Aphex (not physically) in '93 after purchasing SAW 85-92 and the Polygon Window album from HMV on Oxford Street. I was 21 at the time. Not long after that I went to his first gig at Ladbroke Grove where I saw Cylob hand over his demo.

i knew about Awetecherr before Twins.

It was the time i've spent in Paris. A DJ played Didgeridoo along with some really fat crunchy beats. It sounded like heaven and I had to know the name of the track. I can clearly remember the small room with two loudspeakers that was supposed to be the "smaller" floor. The room was full of weed smoke, boys and girls were dancing in the most pure ecstasy I've ever experienced in a night club. A night to remember.

I still prefer Awetecherr though.

got into afx about 2 years ago autechre a little over a year ago.

i don't think i'm ever going to get sick of their records. ever. they are all so diverse and dynamic and innovative and awesome. though i like Ae's newer stuff a lot better than AFX's stuff post-Drukqs

afx and ae are almost the same to me, it doesn't necessarily have to do with the music. i don't know why, i make weird connections with musicians based on what else i was into when i got into them. like goldfinger and suicide machines from my y00th, hot chip and grizzly bear, cepia and dabrye, etc etc.
