brutal legend was a big next gen game by tim schafer and it was awful.

he should just make a next gen sequel to psychonauts, that game was the shiiiiiiiiiit.

I forgot about Brutal Legend... and apparently so did a lot of people :emotawesomepm9:

Oh well, lighting can't strike twice all the time!

yeah i was going to edit my post to say that it wasnt TERRIBLE, but it had a not-entirely-good mix of game genres going on (whee rts on a console) and also a bunch of really bad metal and jack black and ugh that's just a terrible mix.

but yeah, i think "forgettable" sums it up rather well.

Oh fuck! I just accidently closed my tab where I was typing in a long and detailed response to the whole Brutal Legend thing.

Well, to sum things up, I don't think it was a bad game, and when you look at it from a certain angle you would think that this game would sell well because of all the big names they had on board. Jack Black, Ozzy, Rob Halford etc. Plus, they promoted the shit out of that game. But I think one of the things that went wrong was that no one had any idea what kind of game it was? Balls to the wall, third person, open world, strategic action-adventure interactive heavy metal ride? I dunno?

Back when I played the demo I was overwhelmed by all the possibilities because in matter of minutes they had introduced me to billions of things I could do. Oh, now I'm fighting demons, now I'm playing a guitar like in Guitar Hero to summon this thing, and now I'm driving a car, holy shit now I'm building an army of head banging groupies and now I'm a red fucking flying demon who is controlling armies of the undead in a classic RTS fashion. Oh, and there is a pretty damn hot goth girl.

And then there was the whole Activision (bastards!) thingie where they filed a suit against Double Fine claiming contract breach and seeking a preliminary injunction to stop the release of the game by Electronic Arts who had picked up the game after Activision took a massive shit all over the Double Fine team.

Tim Schafer hasn't been the luckiest guy when it comes to selling games. Brutal Legens sold around 1.4 mio copies according to Vgchartz - but take that with a grain of salt because Vgchartz's numbers are always a bit rough around the edges. Psychonauts didn't sell that well either and neither did Grim Fandango as far as I remember. They were all critically acclaimed but I guess they were too weird so no one bought them, and I think that's why Double Fine is now focusing on the indie approach and publishing small, quirky, and original arcade games on the PSN and XboxLive. But according to Tim Schafer they are working on two (maybe three) new games which they aren't ready to talk about yet.

PS. I'm only guessing.

OMG Crysis 2 leak is so FUN! Most fun I've had in MP since COD MW!

Listening to Venetian Snares and playing Crysis 2 must be like taking crack and running on a tread mill cause that shit is intense!

I mean I listen to Venetian Snares with tons of games online but it just syncs so well with Crysis 2 its amazing.

God, so much fun. I need to study but this fucking leak..

Can't wait for it to come out.

Its so great I think I'm going to record myself, it is literally raw. Like Every beat flows with how you run and vault over walls and then turn, slide, shoot, punch, slide, Vault. BING BAM BOOM ! OMG SO GOOD!!!!!!

Yup! I was starting to think watmm was too dumb to see the entertainment value in the Crysis 2 but I'm glad that's not the case.

If they are anything like me, they are just busy playing it lol!

Even running in DX9 graphics maxed out with what the beta has to offer, minimal AA and no vsync MP is just a blast.

Adding DX11 and maxed out Graphics will only heighten the experience, adding Venetian Snares... will get you high.

how are the maps in that game, do they have some wide open battlefield style maps? or is it all just close quarters bullshit like call of duty

I'd say some like cod some like bf. So both.

Great timing when talking about Tim Scahfer:

They've made games featuring heavy metal funny man Jack Black and talking Russian stacking dolls, so what's next? The monsters of Sesame Street of course.

With the help of Xbox 360's Kinect, Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster lets gamers join Cookie Monster, Elmo and other Sesame Street characters as they explore a "living storybook" entitled Once Upon a Monster. In the book, they make new monster friends and share in their adventures, solving problems, forging friendships and learning key life skills along the way. "Parents and children literally become part of the whimsical storybook adventure by getting active together through dancing, jumping, flying and more," according to the, perhaps, overly literal press release.

The Next Big Thing From The Makers of Brutal Legend is... Sesame Street?

"It's great to be working with Warner Bros., especially on a game like Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, which brings together so many things we all care about," said Tim Schafer, President and CEO of Double Fine Productions. "Sesame Street had a profound effect on me, and many members of the Double Fine team, when we were children. So did video games. Now many of us are parents and we want to share with our kids the great experiences we had, but also the completely new ones made possible by cutting-edge technology like Kinect for Xbox 360. So it's a labor of love on many levels."

Started up a game in Mass Effect 2. The graphics are good, but not as good as the PS3 exclusive titles like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 3. The voice acting is great. The music is great. Some nice rave music in the Afterlife club. Sounds great through my Tritton AX PROs. The controls are good. RPG elements are decent so far. Although I'm only lvl 4 right now.

Bottom line: I'm definitely enjoying it.

Ordered Dead Space 2 from gamestop.ca. Eager to get it.

Killzone 3 out in a week! Already pre-ordered my copy. Can't wait!

I'm thinking about ordering Singularity as it's only $10. Has anyone here played it yet? Is it any good? Worth $10?

Man demons souls is still really fucking hard, I finally got back into it and now the only world I have left to beat is world 1, i just freed the witch in 1-3 tower. Those damn red eye knights on 1-3 guarding the boss area are my main worry right now. Hate those guys. Also the old king doran is still there in 1-1, I've tried to fight him and I suck at it, I'm gonna try the backstabbing method. I'm at soul level 71, he still almost 1-hits me. Right now I'm trying to get my faith up to 16 so I can 1-hand the meat cleaver, soul farming in 4-4 with stormbringer.

For what its worth I don't think I beat the game until around soul level 110, so you still have plenty of time. I used a meat clever through most of the game.

Btw I hated the ninja's in 1-3 until I memorized their starting locations.

Those red eyed knights leading up to the boss can be pulled individually if you are good enough with a bow and/or run all the way back to around where the stairs are (near the front of the zone). I think towards the end I used to just shoot them in the head, run away, let them walk back, shoot in the head again etc until 2 red knights remained. Composite sticky bow used to pwn them 2-3 head shots.

Good luck with the Penetrator, cheapest boss in the game imo.

I got caught up playing too many games and unable to finish them. So I'm playing RE5, its decent...near the end but the horror is lost in this game.

Also, I recently bought Skate 3 for the Xbox mainly cause of all the glitches one could do.

That Dead Island trailer is incredible. Don't know anything about the game tho - is it Dead Rising on a tropical island?

Apparently it's a first person shooter with "a focus on storytelling".

Sounds like another L4D. I wouldn't count on it having the heavy emotion of the trailer. It's a good trailer though.

i dont know about the game but that is some brilliant marketing. i hadnt even heard of this game and now i'm pumped.

seriously emotional trailer. look how epic the story of just one family can be in a zombie apocalypse. and that whole trailer encompasses like 15 seconds of action. so sad!

meat cleaver is a really nice weapon now that I can 1 hand it. The penetrator was the easiest boss so far for me. I had that other knight guy i rescued from the dungeon in 1-2 there to help me, with an enchanted meat cleaver it took me like 3 attacks from behind while he was fighting the other guy to bring him down. Now I just have the final boss + old king doran left, plus probably some secret areas and shit that I haven't been to.

Friend was over a few days ago, I put on Tomb Raider 3 for lols, then he fell asleep and I started playing the game for real. For the first time ever. As a kid, I'd always cheat my way through the game as I was too afraid of the enemies and got too involved. It was fun that way. But now, trying to actually PLAY the levels, it's horrible! I can put up with the graphics but the controls are ridiculous and the level design, how was anyone meant to play this game? I can't see shit, it's not like they couldn't have made an important item glow or something. Am I supposed to see the dark color five-polygon-construction on the dark color pixel mosaic? I spend almost the entire time searching and figuring out where I'm supposed to go! Jesus! But I want to beat it.

I tried to revisit Tomb Raider 2 a few years ago. I used to cheat through it when I was younger too. 2 has it's moments, but yeah, it's equally as flawed; having to execute that jump/back-flip/run-from-one-lever-to-another over and over again is maddening.
