Any awesome newish games in the same vein as the old Lucas Arts adventure games like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, etc?

i actually tried to play grim fandago for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was awesome until i actually tried playing the game and found out the sound doesnt work if your processor uses hyperthreading (which has been the standard for, what, 10+ years now?). Oh well.

Just started a new baldurs gate 2 campaign, got waaaaaay frustrated just attempting to get through the first level and said fuck it. Now working on downloading neverwinter nights 2 and mass effect 1 instead.

still playing team fortress 2. Logged 304 hours so far!

I like you.

Telltale Games have released an episodic Monkey Island game. I haven't played it because the last Telltale Game I played was a Sam & Max episodic game and it sucked balls. Being completely anal about voice acting I facepalmed when I heard Sam's voice because it was nothing like the voice from the old game from 1993. But the Monkey Island game received some pretty good reviews but I'm not going near a Monkey Island game that isn't made by LucasArts. But LucasArts did release a Special Edition of The Secret of Monkey Island last summer for the Xbox360 and PS3 with new graphics, voice acting (Dominic Armato from CMI voiced Guybrush again) and so on and some time this summer they'll release LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition for the Xbox360, PS3 AAAAAAND for PC, so you're in for a treat. Plus, it has just been announced that LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition will include a commentary track by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman...

I mostly like inventive FPS and strategy/puzzle games. What's essential that I've missed in the past 3-5 years?

Portal

Yeah this is one of the last things I played before my system got too slow to play new games. Anything else out there like this?

not really. narbacular drop, perhaps, which was responsible for portal being made. but it's very short

There was a thing I liked in narbacular drop that wasn't carried through to portal was the ability to fire portals 'into' the portal. It meant you could essentially go miles away from your starting position without actually having to move ...

The Special Edition of Money Island is pretty good, Y'know the one on Xbox Live Arcade that has all the new graphics and sounds and stuff... The new graphics really stay true to the original, it's tonnes of fun (plus with a touch of a button you can go right back to original graphics).

At any rate I've been playing mostly SC2 beta, which is fun.

About a couple years too late but I've just picked up MadWorld for 4 quid - silly, cheap, shallow and fun - just like I love my women !

yeah, madworld is pretty cool. i had some trouble with the zombie castle place and kind of quit on it. i'll get back to it eventually..

is anyone playing super street fighter iv? i'm loving it.. it feels oddly new and fresh even though it's just an update to a year-old game...

I would say don't bother with the telltale MI games.... their games are very formulaic and I'm not much a fan of the episodic distribution

I got sick of God of War 2 freezing on me. (apparently the launch day PS3s have problems with GoW Collection) So I just went ahead and started a game in God of War 3. I didn't mind skipping GoW2 that much as I beat it years ago on the PS2. I just really want the trophies. So when I upgrade to a slim Ps3 I'm going back and getting that platinum.

I'm still playing Splinter Cell: Conviction because I'm trying to complete a level without shooting anyone and without getting detected, and it's fucking hard.

I've tried a couple of them to see which one seems to be the easiest to completely without getting spotted, and I think Kobin's Mansion is the easiest one. I've completed every section without getting spotted but when I get to the point where I have to attack Kobin it gets really tricky. I should probably just destroy all the lights (even the walls covered in lights) and then take his bodyguards down one by one.

ohhhh man is this game fun. the previous ones are a bit rubbish but this is free roaming with a mission of some sort (race, stunt, knock the shit out of cars, have the shit knocked out of you etc.) at every traffic lights. and a load of cars and items. think GTA crossed with GT, with the objective being to break as many cars as possible. oh and the crashes are gorgeous. very very addictive shit.
