Life in a Day - 8/10

Very good experimental documentary film, basically a compilation of many personal videos from across the world all put together cohesively in one film. At times quite emotive. It demonstrates indirectly just how much inequality there is in the world, and how we are all very similar to one another. I hope it leaves the audience thinking critically about this planet and just how many societal problems we face. I thought it kind of made a mockery of 'nationalism' in the way it presented itself - I was glad to see this. Of course my interpretation of the film is completely subjective and some who have seen it already may disagree with what I concluded from the presentation of the film.

I felt that some clips which touched upon an emotive situation in someone's life was too short in places e.g. the longest clip with just one single individual was perhaps, at the most, 3-4 minutes in length but obviously the film would have had to have been a lot longer if my wish was fulfilled here. Still - I would recommend people to go and watch it. I understand Ridley Scott got involved with the project in some capacity - but it was directed by Kevin Macdonald. I think more "youtube style" compliations like this one will increase rapdily in the future - which can only lead to good things and unite us all.

it was a hella enjoyable story, but the acting and just. everything about it was so cheesy and not so great.

super - yeah this is something special, it's weird, all of its elements are very strong if you take it apart, like the humour that kinda reminded me of mike judge, the gore, the action, the really great acting, especially ellen page that was really fantastic i thought, that kind of stuff is just right for her.. and its joker being that moral ambiguity and realism. but instead those elements kinda work to fuck with you rather than work in a synergistic way, it's really jarring, you kinda expect something really great of it but it just ends up being really weird. still, i enjoyed it a lot.

im not sure why i liked this. it starts out as a modern horror thriller thingy, but towards the end it's something entierly different, like some sort of weird paranormal activity / poltergeist / bill & ted's bogus journey (the scenes in hell) hybrid, it even had some cheesy comic relief, which reminded me of 80's horror movies like poltergeist. i usually don't like horror movies that rely on cheap jump scares, but this one kept me entertained all the way through. it does get totally fucking silly towards the end though.

edit: i should say i didn't like paranormal activity nor saw (though i've only seen the first one), since they're making a big deal about it on the poster ..

somewhere

need to cogitate on this one a little more. i liked the slowness of it. the chemistry was good between father and daughter. chris pontis was erm...in it.

so he was going nowhere at the start (round and round etc) and at the end he is going 'somewhere'. i think she could have represented going somewhere slightly better than just wandering down the road. did the car run out of gas or is it symbolic of leaving his old life behind?

i spent the whole film wondering if it was ever going to go somewhere? the answer was no.

I really liked the first half of it....... and then it was all down hill from there.

Ok i won't watch then. The fickle man hath spoken. [the preview also looked less than enticing for the most part, too glammed up, less than 'real']

what i liked about the second part of the film though was that it reminded me of 80's "horror" flicks like poltergeist or even ghostbusters, cheesy as fuck and not scary at all but enjoyable. it wasn't like i loved the first half anyway.

OH WELL
