Young Adult - 6.5/10 - I haven't despised a main character in a film this much in a long time. The story wasn't very interesting but Patton Oswalt makes the film. Charlize has some moments that I thought wre very real and intense but goddamn she is a bitch in this film.

I took it that was the point though. She's a crazy bitch and she doesn't learn anything.

i thought the point was that she's a depressed alcoholic (and thus a crazy bitch) and that's partly because of being a detached city person. some of the people who stayed in whatever small town it is are all happy which pisses her off.. however, it's OK because some losers she doesn't remember, envy her and wish they were so cool. something like that. have you ever seen One Tree Hill? unfortunately, i have, and this film seemed like it was about the writer of that. it was badly written.. there were lots of lines like ''i'm fat, i know all about zombies'', what? shit film.

Yeah I know but she reminded me of tons of American bitches that I know or have known. Not what I look for in films.

Very pop culture trash. Patton Oswalt was always a pleasure to see show up in the film. Him being the only redeeming part of the whole thing. Charlize as a delusional, ill-intention filled drunk was an okay performance but like I said, I have known a lot of women like her and I despise their type.

and I have not seen One Tree Hill.

watched the new Star Trek film last night.

Most obscene use of lens flare I have ever seen in my entire fucking life.

JJ Abraham can go chocke on a flare. Have you seen Super 8 , what is this guy thinking?

Yeah Super 8 had some lens flare, but no-where near as much as Star Trek.

Die Hard?

Again, no-where near as obscenely frequent and in your face as in Star Trek

I'm going to agree. I think I was mostly appreciating the novelty of a female lead in a hollywood movie that does nothing at all to be likable or get the audience on her side. She wasn't trying to be funny or sexy or any of the usual traps of these types of films. Instead we get this rather stark portrayal of a very unlikable person. She doesn't flinch from this and she doesn't "learn her lesson" or whatever. Those types of roles overwhelmingly go to well known male leads (Nic Cage, Denzel Washington, etc).

Have you seen Monster? For the love of god, you should see what Charlize did in Monster.

I've definitely seen Monster, but I would argue that it had a sympathetic bent to it, as it shows what motivated her to kill. There's no justification for her character's motives or actions in Young Adult other than she just couldn't let go of high school.

Adventures of Tin Tin - 8/10, Holy shit! this was really enjoyable. I havent seen a Spielberg movie this good since Jurassic Park.

The seemingly 1-shot 5 minute long action chase scene in Morocco was one of the most enjoyable spectacles ive seen in recent memory.

yes!

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Just got done watching a bunch of movies.

Oldboy: Don't really see what the hype was all about. Heard that there would be an amazing twist but in the end this movie just kinda dissapointed me. Left wondering what the point of it was.

Tree of Life: Amazingly beautiful movie with lot of surreal images. Reminded me a lot of growing up, minus the abusive father, thankfully. Still pondering what the movie was really trying to say but it's defiantly much easier to watch once you acknowledge how "arty" it is.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo: VERY gripping, competely absorbed throughout the whole 2hr and 40 minutes. Acting was amazing and the original score was fitting, a lot like Social Network's score; even a bit of Enya(?) at a point in this movie. Much like Fincher's other murder mystery "Zodiac" this defiantly overtakes it.

This thread needs something.

It needs for everyone contributing to paste a few of their favorite movies from the genre, they just saw the movie from. Because you can write your feelings and articulate this and that but people (me) still won't know and will have to do a lot of comparing and stuff.

But I have no idea how to make such a system work.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

story of a junkie - pretty great cross between a documentary and regular movie. (supposedly) real scenes of shooting up creeped me out. lack of any moralization was a nice touch as well. kinda like a movie version of burroughs first novel. makes me want to go for other 'shock' movies troma distributed.

Thank you transformer!

You know, I used to make your kind of robots out of wood? I combined hand made pieces with nails and they kinda transformed. I was around 7 then.
