umm. i've seen solaris and stalker, whats some good Tarkovsky to continue with?

or um, if anyone would like to recommend any other well filmed Tarkovsky/Kubrick style films, i'd be pretty happy. i'll investigate Come and See, as posted above, but it looks a little horrible.

I think those are his best. Andrei Rubelev is pretty great too, it's divided into chapters and the final one about "the making of the bell" is straight Herzog, really powerful. Ivan's Childhood is also worth checking out, has some really inventive filmmaking, although I think the "emotional gut punch" that it goes for is a bit overdone...or maybe I'm just too jaded

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Zerkalo (the Mirror) is one of the most visually arresting/interesting movies ever made. It's nonlineer, though, and takes more active viewer involvement than Solaris or Stalker.

i have no idea why you're all so low scoring punchdrunk love. saw it for the first time recently and loved it. went to the top of my pta ranking. the musicality of it really won me over.

I too rank Punch Drunk as one of PTA's best, right behind TWBB.

As for favorite Tarkovsky, I'll second Ivan's Childhood... with a runtime of around an hour and a half, if memory serves me, it is one of Tarkosky's easier films to digest. But Nostalgia has to be my favorite.

He also did a very interesting short film adaptation of Hemingway's The Killers which I think you can find on youtube.

I recently picked up the Kino blu-ray for The Sacrifice which has a documentary called "Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky" which is a must-see.

Lastly, this is a must read:

'Punch Drunk Love' is my favourite romantic comedy, ever. Second to 'Eternal Sunshine...'

The car wreck scene is so brilliantly choreographed.

Sandler will never be in a better film.

and I think I know which scene you speak gaarg in 'Nostalghia'....

Exactly.....is mesmerizing and perfect. I would like to know more about how this film came to be made. Such a strange story. Even for Tarkovsky.

I still need to watch 'The Sacrifice'. The only one left for me to watch. :(

Unless I have missed some short films that I know not of.

ah, yes. i dedicate my 400th post to once again praise total recall. there's a remake coming up (with colin farrell as lead) that will probably blow but may remind the general public of how amazing the original was.

lol perfect

I didn't like Punch Drunk Love mainly because I was so fucking uncomfortable watching it. It also went nowhere story wise. I don't mind when a movie is just being "weird" and answers itself but I never really found a conclusion to any of the plot points (i.e. the piano) And I fucking HATE Adam Sandler's voice.

Punch Drunk Love is simply a worse version of Synecdoche, New York (Same composer so the music is similar)
