Shame. 7.5/10

A pretty bleak film looking at sex addiction. Kinda unrealistic and overdone in parts but I still recommend it. Also Carey Mulligan should probably be in the short haired girls thread.

the raid : redemption - 5/10

Expand on this, Zaphod. I'm planning on seeing this sometime this week.

kill list, 7/10 quite enjoyed it bar the abrupt ending, librarian scene was pretty shocking, decent thriller with horror/satanic cult themes

'Shame' is very depraved film, like 'American Psycho' with a psychotic look at sex instead of murder. No dark humour though. Carey is amazing in this as is Fassbender, the script was just way too narrow in its vision, the characters felt non-existent, no developed backgrounds and lots of unexplained problems. A nude Carey was most excellent. Seeing Fassbender's dong a lot was not excellent for myself, should be for many others though. The film is shot very well though. This director with a better script would be interesting. 6/10

i thought the only thing it had in common with american psycho was that it is a very moral film. but depraved? if anything it was fairly tame and a little naive. extremely melodramatic as well. and sex addiction is a bit deeper than what they portrayed in the film. deeper and a lot more ambiguous. i thought it was almost a christian film in its morality, which left me with a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth. well made though.

Maybe that was the depravity I felt. If there was any "Christian morality" in there? The relationship between the brother and sister was what bothered me the most about the film. Felt like they barely knew each other. This bothered me. i know there are relationships like this but seeing it in this film made me nauseous. The depravity not coming from his sex addiction but from his relationships to everyone around him. I wanted to punch him til he became a reasonable human.

full frontal nudity in the movie guys :emotawesomepm9:

what kind, dick or vag? I'm still waiting for a mainstream hollywood actress to actually show off some genital, all we get is straight bush or basic instinct external pussy shots, give me some magenta nigga.

from what i know about it without seeing it, it does seem like a very heavy handed approach to what sex addiction actually is for people and why it can be so destructive. If it were a movie about a family man with kids who just feels compelled beyond all reason to be a cruiser down at his local park it would be much more realistic of a movie. I mean that's even still an extreme example of how sex addiction can be destructive, so i can see someone making a much more clever and nuanced portrayal of it.

i don't think the sister thing makes it unrealistic at all. i've seen it btw.

I think you might be responding to my post Ali....I believe it exists even though I haven't seen it in real life. There just was no explanation of why they were that way. Maybe there was and i just didn't care to remember. The film will not be one I recommend.

neither do i. it's just extremely heavy handed and moralizing. and i guess it has to be. if it were a movie about a guy edging in front of youporn for six hours after work or ritualistically picking up skanks at a local bar it wouldn't have had much dramatic weight.

Hoarders and Storage Wars are my two new favorite shows.

If you watch Hoarders from the beginning you notice that they seem to try to find sadder and weirder cases with each episode. Gets pretty bleak.

I'm watching the first episode on Netflix right now. It's already pretty depressing. Year old eggs? Amazing.

EDIT: Jesus, this old woman is a fucking witch! I feel dirty watching this.

i just went to a flea market where coincidentally ever seller i spoke to is one of those 'storage wars' people in real life, they had nothing but complaints and bitching about the popularity of these new shows.

god bless america - well i guess you could look at it as a subtle reflexive critique on the so called liberals in america, but most probably it was aiming lower. either way it's crap.
