what i'd be very interested in seeing is if hebden could get burial using something other than a wave editor. burial using audiomulch would be a very interesting idea indeed.

the four tet material sounds like it was generated from a similar setup to the one he used on ringer; lots of analogue gear

the bleepy synth in the second half of moth in particular is a little reminescent of the title track from that ep.

I wish he would just stick to using 3 sp-303's maybe a few other analog pieces.

I dunno my favorite stuff was the first 2 EP's he did with Steve Reich.

steve reid

BIG fucking difference lol. i saw reid/hebden live, and it was jaw-droppingly incredibly good.

i would very much like to hear a reich/hebden collab, though.

Listening to Wolf Cub right now, I like a lot. I've always been a fan of Burial's slightly off-kilter rhythms (not sure if this is intentional lol), so I'm loving this one a lot. Haven't heard Moth yet.

Lol yeah, I can't believe I did that I definitely know the difference. I don't think reich and hebden could really mesh very well, one is more performative while the other likes to compose for others etc. Was it early free-form reid/hebden, or was it once they had started more into the song-writing format?

As one of the minority that wasn't too keen on Untrue, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I like both these tracks, whichever one is which.

I'm curious how these guys connected and how this came together since I never would have guessed this collab. Like did one say "oh, it'd be cool to collaborate with this guy," then have his record label contact the other's label, etc.

yep, I read that in your earlier post

it's a connection sure, but imho it doesn't fully explain how this came together

absolutely 100% believable that his shit is made all in a wav editor. i'm no burial obviously but i work in goldwave almost exclusively (the only other thing i use is soundforge for some effects). from my personal experience it is not in the LEAST far fetched to think that burial has cut and pasted all his music in a wav editor.

Concur. I'm a Cool Edit 2000 man myself, but yeah. Totally possible.

can i please hear Beak and ascdi music made entirely from beginning to end on a stereo (non multitrack) wave editor? I am extremely curious. and i promise i will not be a cynic and take how you claim the track was made as the truth

I love Cooledit but its hard for me to imagine never switching over to it's multitrack mode to finish up the track instead of using only mix-pasting.

Amoral Mayor Earwig

this ep was made entirely in the trial version of goldwave. "amoral mayor earwig" might be a good track to start with from that... though i feel "i saw two of me" was my most accomplished of that ep technically speaking. but any of them fit your criteria, as do any songs from the following EPs, which rely more increasingly on some of sound forge's mastering effects (i.e. wavehammer), but are built completely in stereo channel goldwave. (oh i registered my version a while back so i'm legit now... best 40 bucks i've ever spent).

Just ordered the 12" from Norman Records, who are getting more stock in on Friday, if anyone missed out (like me).

i unashamedly love burial, and it's not because of any technicality in the music - it's because of how it sounds in my ears, and what that makes me feel in my brain.

This.

From the interviews I've read, I'm pretty sure Burial is about the same age as me, from roughly the same area and definitely grew up listening to the same stuff I did (namely classic Metalheadz, Photek, Digital etc...in fact he specifically mentioned a Digital track that had exactly the same impact on me when I was 12). When I first heard Burial, I got that feeling where it's like someone has made the sounds that you've been carrying around in your head for years...

For a while I thought maybe I was Burial, and I'd been making all these tracks in my sleep...

Wow @Fred. Anyway here's the only one I can find right now. My untitled Quickshots 5 track at this Myspace page. Not nearly as good as Fred's stuff, but I had to make it in one day while sitting at my desk at work, working. On Cooledit 2000.
