What was the last James Cameron film to come out?

Titanic.

that would only be if not counting his documentary features.

the last 2 films Cameron made were Aliens of the Deep and Ghosts of the Abyss

aliens?

dont you fucking dare

dude, have you SEEN aliens recently? i loved it when i was 14, and then saw it again last year ... every single line is uber-cheese, and is delivered really badly. those aren't actual characters

edit: which is not to say that the movie isn't stupidly entertaining, obviously

i literally just watched it. i watch it like once a year. the acting is fantastic. it's an action movie. all the characters are perfectly drawn archetypes, the banter is probably the best in any action film. and then the plot/story (since when was this important to you?) is great. it's a perfect action film and so it's a near perfect movie. i could easily say a character in a malick film isn't a character but just a poorly drawn sketch, but that doesn't take away from the film having an impact. aliens is well written because you don't notice the writing.

and really, ripley isn't a character? bad acting from sigourney weaver? that's completely ridiculous, she's one of the great female heroines.

qft

In addition: it's aesthetic has been copied ad nauseam, pretty much since it came out, by countless movies and video games.

i think the first half of Aliens is a near perfect film, it drops off slightly in intensity after the most of the team dies imo. I always watch the movie till the end though whenever i catch it, i just wish there was slightly more action happening when Ripley decides to go back and rescue newt, it seems in theory that tons of explosions and alien deaths would amount to intense edge of your seat action but i find it very ambient almost that entire scene where she goes back for the rescue, much more ambient than it should be.

i noticed every single cheesy line, dude. ripley is the one actual character, yes; and to an extent the young girl (newt). mostly i was referring to, you know, every single other character; all of the marines were like what a 9-year-old boy would imagine "space marines" to be like. i'm not against fun archetypal action characters, but i'm not really seeing that in this case. and like i said, the movie is still entertaining at a more basic level (just like titanic, and the abyss, and true lies ...), but there's no "there" there. versus malick.

anyway the point is that i doubt avatar will be a new star wars.

I saw Aliens in the theatre in 1986, with two hot older sisters, whom were my father's friend's daughters, while we were visiting them in Arkansas. Happy memories.

Makes no fucking sense.

Oh I see. They were sisters, but not your sisters. They were each other's sisters.

:drinks more coffee:

They were my father's friend's daughters - they were daughters, whose father was my father's friend. Geddit?

i guess i don't like your "if i were 14 this would be good" line that you always throw out there when you feel something is beneath you. it's more than a little condescending.

it's not beneath me; it's an entertaining movie, and a very good action movie. i just liked it a lot more when i was younger; maybe i find it difficult to define action movies as "good" movies, now

Guest zaphod

i'm saying that's what you say whenever you don't really like something that's popular. i'm obviously not going to but i could probably find about twenty quotes where you say "maybe if i was fifteen i would like this".

and i think it's a little silly to have to delineate different levels of good. i shouldn't have to qualify everything with "for an action film" or "for a pop album" or whatever. it's just pretentious and stupid.

If we had Mirezzi up in this conversation I'd be cumming stupid hard right about now!
