I was just scanning through old Finnish newspaper archives and discovered that James performed in Helsinki, Finland in the Vanha Ylioppilastalo as the main performer of a techno event called "Union". The date according to my own research was 15th of May 1993. There is very little sources of the event online if any, but the main article I discovered this from can be only accessed by registeration which I do not have.

Can you link to the site? Any idea how to register, do you have to be a subscriber?

To read the full article, you need to pay for the subscription.. Here is the short snippet of the article from the Helsingin Sanomat archive:

Aphex Twin on teknon ihmemies

Lauantaina Vanhalla järjestettävän Union-teknotapahtuman pääesiintyjä, Aphex Twin, on melkoinen messias uudessa tanssimusiikissa. . .

And my own translation of the above is...

Aphex Twin is a miracle of techno

On saturday at the Union -techno event which is held at the Vanha, Aphex Twin, the main performer is quite the messiah in modern dance music. Aphex Twin goes by the real name Richard James, a cornish 21-year-old who is already now called the new Brian Eno. James produces music with several aliases, from which The Aphex Twin and Polygon Window are the most known ones. James' music has of course the same features as in Detroit's, Germany's and Belgium's techno, but....

The date below that article was 14.5.1993, and to my research 15.5.1993 was the saturday of that week. The was another main performer alongside James, I think it was Baby Ford. This guy apparently was at the Union Rave-titled festival in question. Other than this Discogs profile and that short snippet of the full article I didn't find anything else online. It was relatively a long time ago so I don't expect find much about it on the internet..

I also posted this on the Download section on the actual Melt set download page under the comments:

This needs to be updated on the actual Melt set listing page (...CATS ... :whistling: )

I can name a bunch from that set. I've even got a video of it, if I knew how to convert it from VHS I'd do it.

Anyway, if someone provides a template and starts it off, I'll add a bunch.

yo does anyone know if they have this aphex vs vibert (radio show i think ) like an hour or 2 of music, with every now and then aphex and vibert talking, aphex says something like "hello to customs agents who have to search us alot, you must not be getting enough from yer missus" or something. has a funky whistled version of "sittin on the dock of the bay"

I have it.

First Rephlex radio show:

It was a one world show and had tracks from:

mike and rich, vulva, kyoshi izumi - a killer track - on of my all time favourite electronic tunes, cylob's diof - first time i heard it: amazing, squarepusher - a spymania one, darcangleo and dmx crew

Interspersed were hilarious clips form the Jerkyboys series, each clip subtley referring to the artist in question... with a speak-an-spell voice naming the artist. It was extrmeley well put togther. I have it on MD recorded from cassette and can mp3 it at SOME point in the future when i get the time/means.

Something to add to your list of Aphex appearences , heres a scan of a mix tape cover I got at an Open Mind "Ambient Tea Party" in 1993. Its a mix by Aphex Twin & Mixmaster Morris recorded at one of their parties on 2nd May 1993 in Brixton. The Open Mind parties were one of the first parties to just play ambient music which lead on to clubs like The Big Chill.

I could maybe upload the mix if anyones interested, although I think it sounds more like a Mixmaster Morris mix than an Aphex Twin one. Mind you saying that I don't think I've heard Aphex doing an ambient mix so wouldn't be sure what it would sound like.

I've got more to come including some unreleased live stuff.

can any of you be arsed to dig these up? :embrassed: all of these posters are regulars with the exception of Fiasko...

Guest jacderida

phonic, i have that first set somewhere in my ridiculously huge unsorted folder, i'll try and dig it out.

the 2nd one - that was posted on here not too long ago and i also have it somewhere, is it not in the downloads section on here? if not i can post that when i find it too...

i'd also kill for a copy of that video, and the ambient mix sounds interesting as hell.

what is there new to learn. Aphex just says he is better than everybody else, listens only to his music and reinforces how much better he is than everybody else. All his interviews are the same.
