Autechre Autechre.. . Untilted updates.. .

Im listening to it now and I say its still weak piss.. . certainly one of the most lackluster AE releases.. . have the drugs finally run their course? or is this simply a case of trying to inject life into a corpse?

I dont think they've said anything to verify this but I still get the impression that Untilted was a collection of old or possibly unfinished tracks that they "polished up" to make a new album.. . and I put "polished up" in quotation marks because I also feel that the mixing of this album is fucking atrocious in comparison with efforts like Confield and some of Draft 7.30. ..

I've grown to really love a few tracks, like LCC, Pro Radii, Iera, and Sublimit. But I think the release as a whole is kind of inconsistant and not as good as a lot of their previous work.

However, it was still better than a lot of the electronic releases last year IMO, and let's not forget the live tour, which proves they've still got it. I'll look forward to whatever they release next as always.

yeah I wouldnt know about that.. . also I think that the start of pro radii is the worst thing autechre has ever done.. . it sounds like some kids first electronic track. ..

my thoughts are that if this album was indeed made on hardware exclusively they bashed it out in maybe 2-3 months total. The final product of that is what you hear on the Untilted tour recordings (which is fine and great, who cares how long it took). They processed it some and did some of the trademark autechre farting stutters and then called it an album. I completely agree that it sounds unfinished or polished outtakes. I prefer the original (tour recording) better than the final product.

It sounds like they wanted to do a minimal thing at first (from the "rough" sounding untilted tour tracks), and go in a really different direction, then at the last minute they got afraid their elite fans would get mad at such a straight forward rhythmic album... so they decided to do some really fast Draft/confield drum revisions to spice it up a little. This is the albums downfall in my opinion, if they stuck to the new formula they came up with it would have been much more enoyable.

i have nothing against autechre personally, i admit i did some childish things to provoke them.. but they are still one of the most innovative electronic artists out there.

I think the live show was much better than the album itself. Thank god for the Glasgow soundboard recording, best music of 2005. I really hope they release a live album, but it seems doubtful.

did you hear the recently leaked sound board recording of the confield tour 2001?

its pretty damn good, it sounds like a rough improvised version of unrealaesed confield tracks

maybe they just prefered it like that. rather than second guessing what fans want (any artist that does that probably sucks). just making it more interesting for the album (although i might have liked it more if they hadn't).

I love this album. I ignored the, er, internet geekery surrounding it's release and was floored by energy contained within it when I finally listened to it. It's like the sound of pure adrenaline made by thermonuclear nanobots, or something.

I wouldnt call it crappy or good...its just Autechre. When I listen to music I interpret it as something that a person made, not how complex, or talented it is within a particular genre. I understand it isnt up to par with previous Autechre releases but...its not worse to me. Just like I would never compare Squarepusher to Venetian Snares, Squarepusher is squarepusher and snares is snares. I would never compare Autechre to good or bad, Auterche is Autechre.

i like the 2nd half of untilted, but generally i was a bit disappointed. kind of Ae-lite compared to draft, which was really deep. also the sound overall was a bit tinny. since rob brown had a baby the pair of them probably work together differently, so the music will come out differently too.

i agree, the tour kicked ass. btw, i still havent managed to get a download of the glasgow gig, any chance of someone uploading it here?? please!

i like it a lot (much more than draft), this cd has balls, guts & mystic feel & weirdos moments too, a bit like some live tracks, lots of dynamics & metallic sounds but stills kind of emotions, deepness.

but i agree on their live recordings, they're brillant: the last 3 trx of vancouver99 (or 98), toronto 2001 & glasgow 2005 are fantastic.

they should hire some roadie with a MD recorder at every shows & then edit it for a live album.

also, untitled destroys most electronic music released in 2005 (& dont fuck with your third rate autechre released on some shity net labels, in the Ae field, autechre ARE the ones & only, the ae clones remains pathetics)

The second half of LCC is probably the best moment of Untilted for me, and then Pro Radii + Fermium. But the rest of the album is pretty sterile....

exactly.. they made this album mainly because of they were jamming around with elektron machinedrums and monomachines and decided to release the tracks that they (mainly did) with those machines... that's also why it sounds so.. hmm.. structured in some parts, i guess it sounds more rigid and less organic than confield for example.. they did lots of stepsequencing during the last tour, the two times i saw them it basically was all dark in the venue, no lightning at all except for running LEDs from the stepseqs.. those shows were pure fury, it was very intense and fast music... real sick loopy stuff...

it's funny you posted this glitch - i was just thinking about makiing a thread like this only yesterday or the day before.

didn't really like it when it came out, but must admit, over the past 2 or 3 months I've been caning it..including on the move in the car and on the pod, and am seriously loving it now.

not overly keen on Fermium and Augmatic Disport (though like parts of the latter) but love the rest. Starts strong with LCC and finishes with a real cracker in Sublimit.

Has certainly aged well over the last 10 months.

i love this album, have since the first day i got the advance release

it's not quite as moving as draft 7.30, but it definitely keeps me bobbing and twitching from start to finish. very enjoyable in all mental states.

Must admit when it 1st come out I wasnt sure about this, but as some1 else said ive also got well in2 this just recently. Any1 unsure about it still listen 2 it in ur car really load, sounds mint! But yeah wud recomend people spenidng more time listening to it, it is now a strong contender for my fav Ae album..
