I'M SORRY FOR BEING ME I CAN'T HELP THE WAY I AM

I have nothing against Untilted...actually, its quite addictive.

PRO RADII is one of the most intense rhythmic experiences I can think of

I still don't understand the incessant circlejerking that goes on here about Confield.

Draft and Untilted are far more enjoyable.

Confield is their best album! D:

All the details should have been brought up in the mix. There is so much stuff happening behind the crude and repetitive beats. That's why the live show seems so much better, you can feel and understand everything happening in those tracks, you aren't overcrowded by the TAK TAK TAKTAK repetitions

It's a good album, but damn too repetitive in the percussions that are way too high. All you hear is the same thing over and over. I shouldn't need to focus my ears to understand what the track is about. It should come to me naturally (ex: Netlon Sentinel, all the details are there and its beautiful). There's nothing bad in the album, the good parts are just too low in the mix.

i think maybe even more than the other autechre albums, untitled makes a lot more sense on headphones for me.

they're all about the tiny details and stereo-space and the dynamics between each little thing.

True say, brother

I feel like Augmatic Disport is a highly underrated track, It doesn't get enough mention at least (apart from the end part). It's probably the best beat programming I've ever heard.

I think Untilted is one of their least repetitive albums, in fact. All the tracks progress a lot, I would never guess the beginning and the ending of each track belonged to the same song.

Agreed, its my fav from the album by a mile. up there with the trees. most other tracks I find a bit uninteresting.

I don't get all the pro radii love. It's my least favourite track on there. I guess I don't like the big reverby filtered wooden sounding drums - or the intro bass. Or the voice samples. Or the ambient crowd samples. Although all that stops by 2:00 I guess the rest of the track is quite badass.

I think Untilted is absolutely great, but kinda weird if you think of it in terms of the progression they were on with Confield and Draft. It's pretty much purely rhythmic most of the time, and thus has a certain inhuman quality and emotional detachment. I think every track is great, but many of them took me a long time to appreciate... Especially The Trees and Sublimit.

The really low mixing of the melodic / ambient elements by comparison to the percussion is completely intentional, I'm quite sure. They pretty much did the same thing on Gantz Graf. In fact, aurally, I think Gantz Graf and Untilted have a lot of similarities. Gantz Graf is a lot more chaotic though...

I agree with the person saying the album isn't repetitive. There a couple moments that are... the beginning of LCC, and the end of Augmatic Disport... but that's about it.

Actually, I didn"t know that you guys didn't like untilted at the time of the release, I was in london all that year, and I didn't have internet...

Untilted is for me the best ae album, I think (that's an hard thing to do, declaring an ae best album) but I love every track.. I love LP5 as well, but yeah, this one must be my favourite one...

i don't really like the intro either... but it sets the scene for that track for me now. i always imagine being at (you're from christchurch right?) QEII pool as a kid going up those concrete steps to the hydroslide. that intro is that walk up to the slide - all the kids running around and yelling around the pools and stuff and you're in the long line up there. then as that intro starts to fade out you reach the very top when you get to that part where you can choose the fast or the slow slide? you're there waiting and watching other people go down and you feel a little nervous... and then the second, beat-based half is when you finally enter the (fast) slide and start to go down. if only they had strobe lights in the slide itself this track would fit it perfectly.

QEII has some badass reverb. No other artists capture the sound of childhood in massive pools quite like Ae huh? I can see how the above fits the song although about all I see AE in terms of imagery is lights and colours in black space with tri rep. Untilted produces conceptual and judgemental thoughts rather than synthesthetic or memory association fr one reason or another. I probably haven't blasted it enough though, it takes a couple of years for some records to sink in really. (and that doesn't have to mean you talk yrself into liking it, haters).

I like this album, but not as much as any of their other recent releases. I kept reading reviews where people were saying it was their most "human sounding" release in a long time, but I think it sounds colder and more sterile than anything else they've done. It sounds fantastic live though. I saw them in Vancouver and it was a totally unique experience for me. I gained a lot of respect after seeing that. I think their music really needs to be experienced in a live setting to be fully appreciated. I already really enjoyed their music, but being able to feel every beat hit me in the gut was something else.

My favorite Autechre release is Gantz Graf, with Draft 7.30 as a close second. Heavily processed organic goodness.

eric, you and me, at the next autechre vancouver gig,
