Title: MIKA VAINIO/NHK SPLIT

Titles by this Artist: MIKA VAINIO/NHK

Titles by this Label: IPT-Important Records

Catalog #: 280

Released: 1/26/2010

Media Type: LP

Item Details

This is Important’s first release in a four-album series featuring the work of

enigmatic Japanese artist Kouhei Matsunaga. Mika Vainio’s A side is a lengthy

work of harsh electronic drones, while NHK contributes experimental electronic

breakbeats for side two. Mika Vainio is acclaimed as half of Pan Sonic, and for his

solo work. Kouhei Matsunaga’s first record was released on the Mille Plateaux label

in 1998. Since then he has kept busy with numerous collaborations as well as his

work with NHK (Raster Noton). He seamlessly weaves all of his work together in

seemingly effortless fashion. Collaborations on Self V.A. include Leif Elggren, NHK,

Sensational (Jungle Brothers), RLW, and more.

Three of my favorite producers on one record! This is a dream come true. Anybody figured out what that album title means yet?

Apparently it's got something to do with that they are recording on 3 different locations simultaneously.

Kouhei tried to explain it on his blog (I can't understand his English  ):

http://koyxen.blogspot.com/2008/06/telephatic-collaboration.html

He links to this release with only "telepathic collaborations" with 17 different artists

btw theres 2 more Kouhei releases coming out Important in 2010

I think it's one Kouhei solo album and one NHK 12".

we continue to recording it about 60min non stop.

60分 ノンストップで録音した。

now i waiting each audio file.

今、音源待ち。

cannot waiting!!!!!!!!!!

待てないよ!!!!!!!

can you understand how it works? do they just record on their own unaware of what the other guys do and the just make something out of it?

i honestly have no idea, to me it seems like the only collaborative aspect before they actually trade sound files is they will be working on music at the same time at two different places in the world. kind of just for the symbolic nature of doing it i guess. I mean who knows if Sean Booth didn't just have a nice spliff relax and watch an episode of the Thick of it instead of working on music

it's possible that what he's saying is that they did some form of real-time computer jamming over the internet, but it's too cute & engrish to make out if that's the case or not

not exactly, i mean i would much prefer Vaino wasn't in the mix here. I feel like his solo output has become pretty predictable and im not a big fan of it. I like some of his earlier minimal techno stuff under the 0 alias, but i think he's generally very overrated when doing anything non beat oriented solo or collaborating with other people.

I think it has the potential to be a lot more AE-ish than the Hafler Trio collabs though, so my hopes are up a little bit.
