Just for comparison, english muffin:

Makes more sense to call it a crumpet, since it's the same thing and we don't have another food by the same name...

no no - we have those too - they're completely different to crumpets. we call those english muffins also...

So what's the difference then?

english muffins are like bready and more savoury and crumpets are spongy elasticy things more like a fat pancake than bread.

English muffins (not the cake, sweet type), the ones in the pic, are very much similar to bread.

Crumpets are very much not like bread. More like, erm, I dunno, Pancake? But savoury.

the crumpet is more eggy and less bread-like than it's close cousin, the muffin.

Do they have malt loaf? Ah, joy.

Not sure what that is, but we have plenty of malt liquor.

aaah, well that makes that line in Groundhog Day make more sense. I thought that was a rather peculiar food request by that drunk man...

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
