So you're all the EKT plusers I can think of, off the top of my head and I want a synthesiser. Which one do I get? I know fuck all about how to play them or what to do with them, but I figured first off I need to buy one. So which one? I haven't got a huge amount of money and preferably I need one for a begginer. Also, what computer programmes should I download to start off with?

I figured I've been here long enough and it's about time I actually start doing something I'm interesting in learning instead of just listening to all you guys do it.

Thanks in advance

G

If anyone else would like to jump in with suggestions or comments it would be much appreciated  .

You forgot playbynumbers, he's EKT Plus too. In fact, he's the one that told me that EKT Plus has to do with WATMM donations when I asked a similar question, and has nothing to do with musical experience.

But there is a donations section and people who give money to that do not automatically become EKT plus, I certainly didn't!

Chunky, thankyou mate, I will have a browse for them, but if you had to pick one, which one would you pick mate?

there used to (if not still) be an ekt and an ektPLUS option when it came to donations. ektplus came with a copy of watmm vol1, and that's about it iirc, maybe a little more like some extra upload space or something. i paid for ekt plus once or twice but i dunno if that still applies to me, could have been before the first, second or third crash.

edit: i am ekt plus and my join date is from back around the second crash i think.

Essines has, and always will remind me of MacReady.

Well I just bought a Roland Alpha Juno 1. They're all good, it was just kind of random how that was the first one I bid on that was successful. You might want to get one that has knobs, most of my list are button pushers, but that's why they're so cheap compared with the knobby ones. If you look hard enough you could probably get most of that list for £100 or less each machine, but there are ripoff merchants who ask for £300 when it just ain't worth it.

Ensoniq SQ-80 is pretty good, it's a keyboard/sampler with nice filters and keyboard, saw one go on ebay for £200 recently.

Yeah it is to do with donations because the EKT plus pays for a month of hosting for WATMM and you get a Cd pack and that, pretty good, all the other stuff comes with just EKT, like extra space and stuff and the ability to modify posts and topics etc, pretty good value for money actually. I thought it was just EKT plus and that was it.

Wow £100? That's a lot cheaper than I was expecting actually. Thanks man, a great help!

Thinking of treating myself for Christmas :).

Yeah if you get a button pusher then you'll have money left over for one of these programmers:

Then you might have enough cash left for a Yamaha rack/module FM unit like a TX7 or TX81z

My dream synth is the Alesis Andromeda, and after I asked BCM about it being one of his top five or ten choices, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting myself one in the next five years, after I've paid off my loan but before I have a kid.

Have a kid and sell it for the synth.

Get Fruity Loops or something and work out if you can/want to make music first

This sounds like good advice.

I just heard yesterday that these things, while the tweakability factor is great, they are prone to failure. Also I guess the onboard fx are not so good. I'm talking out my ass though cuz I never played one yet, just going by word of mouth. They certainly look nice tho....
