I vote to get Fl studio, because it does have rewire, so if you want reason later on you can use it inside or alongside a program you already know.

also as far as FLstudio is concerned, get at least the fruity edition($99) as the xpress edition lacks a lot of important stuff.

Also important to note, Fl studio itself comes with a load of fx/plugins. I can't vouch for the quality but just having a look at the site there's plenty of stuff to keep you busy.

I dunno what I would recommend, I love to work with hardware, but it's rather expensive sometimes. software is basically free (if you know what I mean )

Reason is a really nice DAW to start off with imo, if you wanna go software.

As for hardware, the alpha juno 1 is great, heard good stuff about the jx3p as well, they're both rather cheap and nice

or do what everybody else does and get a cracked version then buy XL producer when you decide you love it

also make any kind of music to start off with. Don't start off trying to make windowlicker or anything. GO for saw II type stuff. This took me 20 mins 2 instances of a synth and a rimshot sample also a lil compression and a heavy reverb.

edit: just go over to ludds and watch him make music having talented artists at your disposal is something you should do your best to take advantage of. If you can't get ludd to do it i'm sure if you ask around you are likely to find ppl willing to teach you. Ask around at meetings, etc.

in flstudio all you need is samples of the basic waveforms

the envelopes and filter etc are already there

dunno why anyone would use shitty vsts, they sounds like shit

i sampled the triangle wave off one of my synths, just the pure wave form

it kicks the shit into any vst out there man

vst square and sawtooth = shit!!!!!!!!

Donating and purchasing a Subscription package are two different things. If you want something in return (extra space, features, etc.) then get a Subscription package. Thanks for pointing out EKT Plus still says "pays for a month of WATMM hosting", as sadly it doesn't anymore since moving to the VPS.

Reason or FL. I can help you with reason, Ludd with FL. It's all on you. FL has vsts, reason doesn't. I went from rebirth to reason, so I'm a bit stuck atm, but a more tradition daw is easier for me to grasp. I haven't spent enuff time proper with FL tbh.
