digital mellotron, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

I think it'll be exactly like the memotron (i.e. a combination of a really nice controller and a high quality sound bank) which is great if you want to play a mellotron, but don't want to deal with maintaining an old instrument .

yeah but wouldn't you be able to get the same functionality by using old tape bank recordings (which they now officially sell) from a mellotron on a nice sampling capable keyboard? or is it all about the nice looking case, if so i can understand that :emotawesomepm9:

It just makes about as much sense to me as selling a digital Optigan

lol

yes no more manufacturer trolling plz.

I aways enjoy NAMM even if it's not always that great. Synths and audio equipment are what I love, and this is the time of year to hear about all the new/upcoming stuff (summer namm is more for guitars, pa's, stuff I like but is more meh).

NAMM was a lot more exciting in the waldorf, clavia, etc VA era cuz there were always new hardware synths coming out, and modular synths were just starting to really get popular again (though they have always been popular to an extent). Korg electribes sx, mx, I remember watching those vids from NAMM a million times while drooling. Same with Nord Modular g2, all the nord stuff, Doepefer, Elektron.

It's still fun though :)

reading that thread was like routing a unipolar positive ramp LFO in trigger mode, to a LOL. A constant rise in level, until the end, where it suddenly drops to zero.

i would be interested if any synth companies have actually put out a synth that harnesses unused synthesis technology in hardware like something that focuses on granular, physical modeling or additive synthesis. I'm really bored of subtractive synths.

I really hear you on that one. I've been building a lot of modular bits and pieces from totally cheap parts and they sound growly and gnarly as hell and that having screwed up generators/oscillators/sources makes the subtractive process a lot different.

What I'd like to see is a standalone analogue FM synth with good physical parameter control (i.e. no one-slider-only DX stuff)... especially with a lot of feedback possibilites. Oscillator, filter and amplifer FM would be awesome, especially if, for example, one could route the output of the filter section back into that of the oscillators.

seems like it's using some digital chips to do weird sequencing

ok, I got curious this morning, has anyone seen a review of this or the six-in-a-row anywhere? I don't even want one, I just want to read how it works with grammar that isn't inspired by german.

not standalone per-se but it's a start I suppose.

Yeah, you can easily do that stuff in a modular scenario and Cynthia's Zeroscillator is a great little module, it's a shame the production has been so stop-start recently. However, I'd like to see that kind of architecture in a standalone keyboard-based setting.
