If i wanted any modular, it would be a 25/2600, or an EMS synthi with teh pin patches. A whole bunch of cables everywhere would drive me mad.

edit: i wouldn't kick a buchla out of bed

Edit: nice! Some buttons have dual functions and there's at least 2 assignable knobs. WIN

Prophet 08 = $US2100 (8 voices of Curtis DCO)

MoPho Kbd + Tetra = $1600 (5 voices of Curtis DCO with sub oscs and feedback loops)

You forgot about multitimbral! (prophet 08 is only duo timbral i believe,i know it's not multi)

iirc when dave released it. It wasn't hyped at all, and it was totally out of no where and he said something to the extent of " I just did this b/c i wanted to for myself". So...yeah it was a bit of a simple jumping the gun collectors piece in a way. But not a bad synth.

edit:

OH yeah, mopho kb also has audio input, and midi over usb which prophet 08 does not have.

Well for whatever reason I first thought the mopho keyboard was a tetra keyboard, but the appeal is still there for me.

Infact I kinda like how they allow you to attach a tetra to it for easy integration. Means I could get the KB and then get a tetra later if I felt I needed more power and was willing to drop the cash on it.

Lastly I got to admit I'm a sucker for these small 2-3 octave synths with keys these days... which is also why the OP-1 is giving me a sweatpants boner.

I am impressed by this. At first glance I was thinking, oh another tuner, but then I read it and this is pretty cool:

Korg Debuts the Wi-Tune - An Innovative Wireless Tuning System

January 15, 2010

In 1975, Korg introduced the world's first hand-held electronic tuner. Now with over 20 million tuners sold, Korg remains an innovator in tuner technology, and it is once again at the forefront with the all-new Wi-Tune Chromatic Tuner. It uses Korg's Wireless Tuning System™ to provide new freedom for the musician, eliminating the need to swap cables or patch in and out of the tuner during performance.

The Wi-Tune consists of two pieces: the transmitter module and the tuner itself. To use the Wi-Tune, the player simply attaches the clip-on transmitter module to their instrument and turns it on. The Wi-Tune picks up the signal and displays the current tuning information in the large, backlit display. Users can place the tuner module anywhere, assuring maximum visibility with no cable limitations. The Wi-Tune can also be used as a traditional tuner using the built-in microphone. In addition to visual tuning, it can generate reference tones for tuning by ear.

Accurate to within ±1 cent, the Wi-Tune offers a wide detection range from A0 (27.50Hz) to C8 (4186.01Hz). It also features a folding stand for easy-to-read visibility.

Three Wi-Tune systems are available, each with a specific application transmitter clip:

WR-01: Wireless Multi Instrument Tuner

WR-01BW: Wireless Brass and Woodwind Tuner

WR-01S: Wireless Saxophone Tuner

The Wi-Tune carries an MSRP of $150.00 and is now available.

Hard decision.

Get the tetra first, and have all the voices/multi. Or get the mopho kb first, and have one voice, but a nice interface, kb, and wheels all in one nifty package. Mopho kb, better usability, but limited sound options. Tetra, 4 sound options, or one all together sound, but small lil box w/ a few knobs and only 2 pots. *jeopardy theme*

Tough indeed. Especially uz the closer things get to 1000 dollar, the easier it seems to just save a lil more and getthenordg2 which may not have the analog goodness of dsi,but pwns the hell out of them in every other way (imo).

The only stick in the wheel is that I have digital well covered in vsts, and need some analog goodness. I don't really want a lil phatty without getting a dsi product first. I like the dsi flexibility and sound but there's nothing like that fat moog filter, which software is getting closer to, but doesn't have spot on. I did shell out for minimonsta and it's quite awesome. Bah.

Here's the naked prototype sounding like a $20 pawnshop digital drum machine run through a boss distortion pedal.

peep the vids for Barbour whining about people who dont dig his mosquito tone gear and sounding like a bitter insecure jerk.

Speking of insecure, there had to be at least one new bit of gear with an EXTREME just what are you compensating for with all this sexual violence imagery eric type name and here it is.

round two over.

stopped by the teenage engineering booth to see their little gizmo... was kinda mobbed. i didn't get a chance to lay hands on one, but i guess they're cool. still not entirely clear on what the hell they're supposed to do, but they make fun sounds and the tape emulation is interesting enough.

saw the metasonix tube drum machine, but i thought that was old news. i don't get their stuff, personally, but to each their own.

stopped by the westone booth just to thank them for making the 3s. i think i love my westone 3s more than any bit of kit i've bought in the last 10 years.

got to play with the dark energy for a bit at analogue haven, and it's FUN. nothing groundbreaking, but it definitely has that satisfying analogue sound.

chauvet and american DJ both showcasing some pretty impressive LED lighting stuff. with the DMXIS USB/DMX box, there's no reason for anyone to NOT have killer customised light shows with their live sets anymore. for the price of the average modeling synth, you can have a kickass coordinated lighting setup that's fully programmable and interactive. awesome.

that pretty much rounds it up for this year... there's probably more i'm forgetting, but i'm exhausted.

GMEDIA/GFORCE Announced Imposcar 2! Out March 2010.

http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2010/01/16/wnamm10-the-imposcar-2-has-arrived/

I'm not sure about any new features other than already announced ones (last year). There's a better patch browser, and 2 new GUI size options.

Here's the vid from last year

http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2009/01/18/wnamm09-imposcar-2-full-demo/

I had forgotten that they had pretty much scrapped the S.O.B. And moved some of the features into Imposcar 2.

Will certainly be getting this.
