dsi weren't the ones that said a new product. it was an *insider*, which is always skewed.

All the same, I'm still processing the grey scheme there.

I think their graphic designer got the nord lead panel file mixed in with the mopho kb file.

I am assuming this is a prototype.

I'm sure there are less materialistic ways to get music to babby. Like a home stereo. You local landfill doesnt need you to have a specialised gadget for abolutely evertything.

Be cool if there were pregnant models walking around at NAMM with those on tho

so... NAMM was creepily quiet and uneventful compared to past years, in my experience.

a LOT of major names were missing, and even those who were there had scaled down their presence a great deal. hall E (the indie / mom-and-pop type hall) was half empty, with loads of empty booth slots.

this was expected, but just strange to see. avid's booth was about 1/4 the size of digi's presence last year. access went from their great beaded-curtain monstrosity to a modest few virus TIs set up on a bench.

anyway, not a whole lot to report really.

stopped by big city music to see their analogue goodies:

post-159-126352254281_thumb.jpg

metasonix stuff. including their midi-to-CV thingy. i dunno, i'm not as into modular lust as many here, but there was certainly no shortage of bits and pieces.

arturia has a monstrous, ridiculous new keyboard version of the origin. this thing verges on being as asinine as an openlabs niko to me... but i suppose there are some that dig that:

post-159-126352263316_thumb.jpg

the new "controller keyboards" seem geared towards their analogue collection / plugins... but there's nothing special about them i could discern, other than wooden side panels:

post-159-126352268706_thumb.jpg

IK had amplitube 3 on display. messed with it a bit... nothing sonically staggeringly different - although on the namm floor with relatively crap headphones, it's hard to tell. there did seem to be some more complex effects stuff available, more in line with what guitar rig has to offer... but we'll have to see how in-depth it is.

post-159-126352277613_thumb.jpg

a bad photo, but a kinda cool product. sanyo had a tiny little field recorder... the Xacti... about the size of the ipod nano. that's all well and good, and it's a groovy form factor, but i'd be curious to see how good the onboard mics are. i suppose i could have tried it out, but didn't bother. i'm going back saturday, so i might take a listen just out of curiosity.

EKS (a finnish company, i believe) was in attendance with the OTUS DJ controller. it's a soundcard / turntable controller all rolled into one. it's pretty slick, and was very responsive when scratching in traktor (as much as i can scratch - i'm no turntablist):

post-159-126352292968_thumb.jpg

warwick had an all-chrome 6-string neck-through thumb. pretty damn awesome looking, but for $8k US, i think i'll stick to my standard bubinga 5-string NT. neat to look at though.

on to analogue haven. much smaller booth than last time, and rather than being sequestered upstairs away from the riffraff, they were smack in the middle of hall E, and therefore crowded with fools attracted by the flashing lights. but here's a couple of photos:

and finally... the doepfer dark energy. i didn't get a chance to play around with it... i'm a bit intrigued by the whole concept, as i'm being sucked into this new breed of micro analogue boxes... this thing was a lot smaller than i expected (hand touching it for scale):

post-159-126352316087_thumb.jpg

that mostly rounds up today. akai had a little 25-key controller with an app for the iphone that turns it into a little synth... kinda cool i guess, but also kinda WTF.

stopped by DSI but totally missed that mopho keyboard. how disappointing, if that's all they're offering. i'll definitely check it on saturday to be sure.

more later.

Man this thing looks like fun =D

It's all down to how much it costs. If it is around 500 dollars it will be a homerun. Around 1000 and meh. Sadly I think it will be more than 1000.

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus among ppl that have been going for a while. Thanks for adding your comments and pix to this thread! Wish I coulda been there. ANd thanks for pics of actual synths! Synths have gotten VERY LITTLE coverage this year. And it's not that they aren't there either. :cisfor:

MORE INFO!

1. MAP is 799$

2. Pots for every knob on there with a line

3. That one is just a prototype, probably will be minor changes for the final version (including color scheme, there is both a yellow and a black one there)

4. USB MIDI, Audio Input (like the Mopho), Digital feedback control (like the Tetra)

5. New knobs (Rogan, really great texture/rubbery feel to them)

6. Osc and Env controls can select either a single oscillator/envelope or all oscillators/envelopes - so if you want to, say, control glide on both osc 1 and osc 2 at the same time, you can

7. Tap tempo and arpeggio stuff like the Prophet

8. Power switch included

That Mungo synth looks interesting..

There's no mention of it being analogue on the website, and if it was, It'd cost a fukin kidney! So if it's digital, why is it so big??

Hmm, interested to see what happens to it, and how much it ends up going for. At the moment, such a brief description of its features really does it no favours.

you're right about the op 1, will definately depend on the cost and how well realised all the proposed features are. Im still facinated, if only by the concept. I can imagine a whole comunity of users and tracks/albums made entirely on it. Could be great!! But a yeah between a mock up at one expo, to a barely working version at another leaves me sadly doubtful about the project.. Fingers crossed!
