Autechre Theory

I listen to BBC Radio 6 a lot.

Over the last week I have heard them play 'flim' twice ( the presenter even mentioned she had been listening to an AFX set) and both 'Windowlicker' and 'Alberto Balsam' played once. Coupled with the fact that they announced the new Autechre album on the news (they pronounced it awtiker) I just have a feeling Warp records are warming up to something. Labels have always pushed for what gets played on the radio to prime listeners for a release, it just seems there has been an influx of Aphex during prime time daytime music radio. Widowlicker was their 'classic of the day' or something too.

New Album anounced in the next 3-4 weeks.

I don't want to get my hopes up prematurely. (I mean, you think it's hard being an Aphex stan, you try being a My Bloody Valentine fan, as far as waiting patiently for albums that are promised and never delivered.)

Yeah, there has been a resurgance of medie interest in Aphex Twin lately in the British Media but I think that might have more to do with him playing a really high profile gig in the middle of the British medialand (i.e. London) late last year and kind of reminding a lot of people that he's still alive and how great his stuff is.

Add to that a couple of in-type people in the clubbing scene looking for the Next Big Thing tipping that there's going to be an "Acid Revial" along the lines of the cosmic disco revival and the balearic revival of the past few years. And who's the obvious person to namedrop for that?

I don't want to harsh-buzz anyone's clit-on but there can be more reasons for mediabombing of certain artists than just "they've got a new one coming out." As happy as that concept would make me. But you know, he's a savvy kind of a guy, he'll move when the time is right.

Now if anyone wants me, I'll be down in the basement with my shrine, making offerings to the Prophet Kevin Shields.

I mean, *I* was really hoping that it all meant that RDJ was gonna be announced as the next Doctor Who but obviously that didn't happen.

I completely forgot to put that they played Eggshell by two days before Autechres's announcement, albeit in the evening. I just cant help but notice the prime time coverage of Aphex. And of course it could be nothing at all. But sitting here and seeing the pattern emerge so to speak, I thought it might be worth a mention.

Don't know if it has to do something with this, but @ 19th january, swedish radio, SR, had a one and a half hour Aphex Twin remixed,night. They played Alarm Will Sound, Mochipet, Dillinger Escape Plan... remixes of Aphex Twin and also talked a lot about him. Today I did a little prayer while standing outside The Bank that the birth of this album will go smoothly and the delivery will be safe and we will have it in our hot little hands this year.
