well, for me, the primary chord progression / melody is the main juice. it does tend to get a tad repetitive, but it's an engaging enough series of changes to keep me interested.

some of the elements at the end of certain repetitions verge on a bluesy type sound, which is something i'd never have equated with autechre. in fact, the whole main 'riff' if you will, is rather reminiscent in general timbre and structure to some delta blues guitar playing. at least in my mind.

anyway, i love it. and it doesn't make me angry that others dislike it.

Is known(1) really that bad? Because, you know, I've heard chenc9-1dub...

fuck i hate that track

lol yeah that one isn't that good.

But for reals how can you guys hate Known(1) but not krYlon? I gotta be honest, krYlon just does not do it for me. Out of all the tracks it's the one that seems to have the least focus, and the least amount of melodic coherency. It just sounds a little bit too gay. Kinda like batman and robin gay. Just out of curiosity, for those of you who hate known(1): what are your thoughts on krYlon?

Haha, I actually quite like KrYlon. I mean I don't find it amazing, but it's not bad. I think it's because Known(1) sounds very dry, very general MIDI, and has little in the way of atmosphere or dynamics, while KrYlon is more silky and fluid. Like I said before, I find the screwed up lead sound in known(1) quite interesting, but the rest is too irritating to ignore. :-)

Yeah, KrYlon is really beautiful. It's a lot better than 'not bad'. I'm not quite sure why I like it so much - it's got something very special going on in those layered, crystal clear synth layers.

known is a good track, it's one of the better uses of phys mod synthesis on the album. It almost sounds like they are using the Harm Visser Kyma string patch on it, it has that distinctly spectrally low pass dithery filtered sound. I almost want to say it's Cameleon, but not sure.

i find known(1) to be one of my favourites from oversteps, and part of it is that it actually HAS a melodic structure that doesn't necessarily feel like it was created by KOAN (although the synth 'melody' over the top of it kinda does...)

hey maus, nice to see you in the autechre sub forum, i agree that this track in particular sounds more deliberate. which tracks on the album do sound Koan-y or generative/stochastic to you (if any)? Treale although it's one of my favorite tracks, sounds ridiculously random melody based. i love it

Yeah, I love the wtf melodies and chord changes in that track. Maybe I'm just mental, but I'd be quite happy with two CDs off insane random melodies and weird chord shifts, if it was done as funky as it is on Treale.

Coil and AE were due to release a collaboration album before Chiastic Slide came out, nothing ever came of it though

Known(1) reminds me of the beginning of the Hitch Hikers Guide theme tune.

Shit, now I'm really looking forward to hearing it (seriously).

I enjoy known(1) actually.

It just has that sound to it than you can never quite remember, so you have to keep playing the track. It grows on you.

i can't understand how someone can make known(1) and at the same time something like that wonderful melodic moments in Treale that occurs at 0:23 and 4:45

known(1) must be a joke, evidence of the real fake even. It's unlistenable.

If you like Drane2, then probably you will love Known(1).

that's a weird comparison. Drane 2 is really moving. Known(1) is an enjoyable pisstake.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.
